Eternity gasped and stumbled back a few more steps when the Diamond shot out of his shell. "No... No..." she muttered softly. She'd seen too many deaths, too much pain... But the keening was what really did it. The mournful cry of the other dragons flipped a switch in her mind, and she felt the tears spilling over, running down her cheeks. No... She couldn't do this any more! Why...? Why did everything always result in bloodshed and death...? It wasn't right! She felt her heart fighting against the Candidate training. Do not leave the Sands until the Hatching ends. Do not risk a dragon being meant for you not finding you because you left before the little one Hatched. Do not... Do not... So many things they couldn't do... But... This was something that she couldn't deal with! Sure, it had been a few months, but it was only a few months ago! She turned her back on the eggs, stepping to hide behind the others. She didn't WANT to see the rest of it, but she knew Lenara would not allow her to leave. She hid her face in her hands, trying to force the painful memories away. Her sister, laughing and smiling, as they hauled their camp bags into the car... The pair of them as children, walking hand-in-hand on Eternity's first day of kindergarten... Her sister's face, turned orange by the flames... The touch of her skin, ice cold, and the grey color that she only saw after pulling Serenity's body from the flames... No! It was too much!
She was so tempted to just run away... But where would she go? The forest held the memorial, the Candidate Barracks only bragged about what could never be. And they could find her anywhere, it didn't matter... What was there left to do anyway? She had done her best, but it still wasn't enough! Sure, Siren and Lucy had helped, a bit, but... This... This was enough to send her back to that darkness that had threatened to swallow her. She could feel it grabbing at the edges of her mind, her heart, promising numbness, promising to take away the pain. She didn't know if she had the strength to fight it anymore.
She found herself leaning against the wall, behind even the tallest of the Candidates. She couldn't see the bloodstained Sands, the remaining eggs that had yet to Hatch, she couldn't see any of it.

.: Serenity :.
One moment, all was well. The next, everything had gone wrong. There was a flash of light, a bright snow white form leaping through the clutch. The high cry which came from it, filled with rage, echoed in Serenity's ears as the dragon leaped upon it's black pearl sibling, tearing into her. Serenity's heart felt as though it had stopped when the queen's screams abruptly died out in a bubbling wheeze. "No, Goddess, please, no" The words fell from her lips as she watched the pair, that moment of stillness revealing a diamond king tearing at the queen's throat. The queen hooked her babyish claws into him, using her final moments of life to ensure that her killer went with her into the black of death between.
Serenity's knees buckled, sending her to the ground as she stared at the blood soaked sand where a moment ago had been a gleaning beautiful queen. She didn't see the other queen scrambling into the stands, choosing one of the other earth-born as her rider. The young woman's mind was reeling, struggling to process what had just happened.

The rage-filled cry echoed around and set Tobias's muscles into moving before he actually knew what was going on. His brain had reacted faster than his logic. He had seen the train-wreck set in motion and his instinct to protect set him running. He wasn't fast enough to save either of them. He had only traveled halfway towards the black and diamond hatchling when both disappeared. He came to a shocked halt and just looked upon the ichor-stained stand where they had been only a moment before. Both were gone. Both were... dead.
Tobias's normally stoic expression split slightly into deep hurt. Clenching his fists briefly, he became aware of where exactly he was. He was where he ought not to be. Turning his back upon the tragic place of the hatchlings' demise he retraced his steps. Lifting his head though he caught sight of something that shocked him again. And then a third time. Kaira was torn terribly and laying there upon the sands with healers trying to stem the flow of blood. And beyond her...Aura and the other queen hatchling. There was the rainbow eyes of impression and it was directed straight towards Aura. So many thoughts raced through his mind. Through this horrible tragedy came goodness. He would definitely have to find her later, if allowed, and congratulate her. And ask her how impression really felt like. Unless of course he were to impress himself. But he couldn't think about that right now.
Lifting his hands, he clapped for Aura briefly and then bowed his head to her out of respect. Then he turned in his place and kept watch again trying not to let the sadness make his heart heavy.

..:Amelia:.. Tag: Theodore/Red
The breath that Amelia had been holding forcefully expelled itself in a choked gasp. One moment, there were two young queens gracing the Sands, and the next…
She clapped her hands over her ears, squeezed her eyes shut, and moaned, but nothing could block out the horrific keening of the dragons or the sudden ache in her heart. She didn’t even know the lost pearl—none of them did—but the sense of overwhelming despair was tangible. Amelia’s body gave a violent shudder, but she forced her eyes open. The scene before her was blurred by tears, for which she would later be grateful.
Splatters of ichor and a shattered shell were all that remained of the dark pearl and her diamond attacker. Kaira lay bleeding on the hot sand, surrounded by a knot of attending healers. The light-colored queen, at least, seemed unharmed, though she cowered in the stands behind Aura.
”What…” Amelia began, plaintive and feeling abruptly dull-witted. The world tilted dangerously around her, and she lurched to one side before righting herself. She shook her head in attempt to clear the fog that had settled upon her shoulders and tried to ease her rapid, shallow breaths into deeper, gentler ones.
Ignoring Pernese convention—and, by the determined set of her mouth, daring someone to comment on it—she swayed across the sands to the boys, finding Teddy and latching on to his hand as though it were a lifesaver. ”Oh, Teddy,” she whispered, leaning heavily into his shoulder. She could hardly bear to look toward the hatchlings now. Some deep part of her was still reeling with instinctive horror while the rest of her mind attempted to process what she’d just witnessed. ”Oh, God.” Out of the corner of her eye, she saw her baby sister fall to her knees, and her free arm stretched out toward Serenity.
..:Navelon:..
The sound the diamond made is what alerted Nav to trouble. He’d been so focused on calming, hopeful thoughts that he might of missed it, but after turns of hearing the many and varied vocalizations of dragons, that particular one caught at him immediately. He’d never, in all his turns at the Weyr, heard a dragon make a sound like that.
His eyes snapped over to the barreling form of the diamond, his mouth forming a silent outcry as the rogue hatchling lunged at its sister. He had witnessed the tragic loss of dragon life more than once at Hatchings, but never something so malicious, so intentional as this. Dragons simply did not behave in such a manner. He was utterly flabbergasted.
The keen struck him to his core, and although many chaotic events were unfolding around him, all he could do was stare mutely at the spot where the pearl and diamond no longer were. His mouth closed, opened, and closed again, as did his fingers as they curled reflexively into fists. No. This…this wasn’t right. Was there something wrong with this clutch?
Sudden fear gripped him. He looked in silent askance at Aketh. She should have known, should have felt that something was amiss with that diamond. Would there be others? Who else would be imperiled today? He felt a surge of irrational anger—Hatchings were dangerous, true, but it was only due to accidental blunders or Candidate’s idiocy. There wasn’t supposed to be such wickedness, not from dragons!
His head swiveled around, gaze seeking the knowledgeable riders. What would they make of this?

Is he gone? The soft, trembling voice whispered into Eternity's mind, distinctly female, but its source was not immediately apparent. The chaos of Sirieth and Demonth's loss had hidden the oddest sight, the egg from which Demonth had supposedly come inching around the sands, seemingly of its own power. Its source of locomotion was not visible, save for the motion of the egg itself, and the sound of slithering sand as it was forced out of the way. Eternity... Is Demonth gone? Cvath does not wish to see him again...
The rest of the eggs had gone still, as if out of respect for the loss of their siblings, but now, they came to life once more, and three eggs opened swiftly, revealing a slender, rosy colored Quartz, a dark, rich navy Sapphire, and a rich, royal-toned Amethyst, also possessing the rainbow sheen. The three hatchlings all split, two heading to the girls, one to the boys, although the Quartz switched directions after a moment to slide up next to the only girl on the boys' side. Amelia? Why are you sad? Kikith doesn't like you being sad...

It took her a moment, the voice didn't break through the darkness right away. The voice didn't, but the name did. Eternity turned to see the back of the other Candidates, then, not even bothering to wipe her face, she darted around them and to the front. "Cvath, he's gone!" she attempted to call, but her voice was muffled. Cvath, he's gone. He... He's not going to come back. But... Where are you? I can't see you... She looked around the Sands desperately. There was a flurry of activity, as three more baby dragons burst out of their shells, and it distracted Eternity just a little. But she could feel it. There was a light, fighting off the darkness. It had to be the voice in her head, her dragon, but she couldn't find her!
She took the moment to wipe her face with the sleeve of her robe, which had somehow come out of the whole experience in one piece. Then, she looked over and saw a piece of eggshell moving about, almost on its own. She couldn't quite make out the shape behind it, her vision was still blurred by her tears. But something was there. "Cvath, is that you?" she asked aloud. "I'm here Cvath, over here!"

.: Theodore and Serenity :.
Theo watched as the dragons found their riders. There was a sense of the surreal about this, a disconnect between daily life and this moment, standing on the sands, feeling the heat burning beneath his feet and watching as baby dragons stumbled through the crowds and found their riders.
When the Topaz had gotten to his feet, Theo had felt a moment of hope, but it seemed that the young dragon had already decided where his rider was, and that his place in life was not by Theodore's side. The man did his best to turn away the sense of disappointment, looking to the rest of the clutch and hoping that his dragon might be somewhere within. The queens hatching brought a smile to his face, but that smile disappeared the moment the scream of dragonic rage filled the air. He took a step forward as the white diamond run for his black sister, though there was nothing which he could have done to prevent what had happened.
Dragon blood. For a moment, that was all that Theo could see. Blood stained the sands, stood out vivid against the dark hide of the black pearl queen and against the stark white of her attacker. The queen's cry died away to a soft bubbling, and in that moment Theo was not on the sands. The oppressive heat of the sands had become the searing power of fire and the dying sounds of the queen had become the dying sounds of his fellow engineers. He shook his head, banishing the images, for now at least. He forced himself to look at the clutch, to acknowledge the grief at the lost queen. That might have been Amelia's dragon, or Serenity's dragon, had she not been killed in such a savage manner.
A tall figure pressed against him, and Theo wrapped his arms around his twin. Amelia provided the perfect distraction from what had just happened, kicking Theo's protective instincts to focus on her rather than the feeling that there should have been something they could have done to save the young queen. "Shhhh" He whispered to his sister. "It's okay. I'm right here Ally"
--------- Serenity struggled with what she had seen, trying to understand how it had come to this, how the diamond could have killed his queen sister. The death of the baby queen, to young to have had even a chance at experiencing life and all it's glory, hit Serenity in all the places which held the most pain. Tears filled her eyes as she stared at the sands below her, hands and knees burning from the heat.
She had been standing on the edge of the group of girls and from the corner of her eyes she saw a blond figure break from one group to the other. Even had blond not been an unusual colour in this place, she knew that particular shade as well as she knew the red colour of her own hair. Amelia. Lifting her head, she saw her older sister fall into the arms of their brother, and then reach out a hand to her. With what felt like far more effort than it should have taken, Serenity forced herself to her feet, moving to join her siblings.
--------- Theo held Amelia, watching as Serenity came towards them. A cracking noise had Theo seeing three hatchlings, a rose tones quartz, a royal purple amethyst and a deep navy sapphire appear. The quartz and the amethyst moved to the girls, and the sapphire towards the boys. A moment later though the quartz moved towards the boys side. He watched as the rose hued dragon approached them and Serenity stopped in her movement towards them in order to watch the dragon as well.
The Quartz stopped next to Theo and was clearly looking at Amelia. "Congratulations" Theo told his twin. "What's her name?" Serenity asked, having moved close enough to speak with them.

Gavin watched as the first hatched of the clutch found who she was looking for. The emerald Impressed Jena, who, in something the books got right, announced the dragonet’s name, Tinkth, and headed off to get her food. Of the two dragonets remaining on the Sands, the topaz didn’t seem very interested in Impressing; he was still sitting there as if he expected his rider to come find him. On the other hand, the sapphire was searching through the boys with intention, if not a clear destination. Gavin didn’t have long to watch them; two more eggs hatched one after the other, producing not two but three dragonets. The singleton was a pale, lilac-toned amethyst with a distinct rainbow sheen to her hide, but what fascinated Gavin was the twin emeralds. Eggtwins were supposed to be very rare and to have both survive in such a small egg was amazing. He would have been sure that at least one would die due to lack of resources in the egg.
The emerald twins were so beautiful yet different. One was a pale sap green that was nearly white with a spot of nearly black forest green on her forehead, the other just the opposite, mostly the deep forest green with a nearly white spot. They both agreed on a direction though and headed into the boys. The dark green didn’t seem to know where she wanted to go yet, but the light green pranced purposefully through the boys, coming closer and closer to Gavin. Was she coming for him? She stopped at his feet with a happy warble and stared adoringly upward, into his eyes.
G'vin! I'm so glad I found you! Can we get some food now? Your Ashath is very hungry. Breaking out of that egg with Amyth was HARD.
For a moment he could only stare at the tiny, perfect emerald, his breath taken away.
“Of course, Ashath. I’m sure Amyth will find her rider fine without us. You’re the most wonderful dragon I’ve ever heard of.” G’vin turned towards the feeding stations and called her name again, still enthralled by his lifemate. Eternity’s congratulations barely got through to him, but he did respond. “Thank you, and good luck. I have to go feed her now, she’s so hungry and worn out.” He and Ashath headed to one of the feeding stations. When they reached the meat, G’vin picked through the pieces, setting aside any that he thought were too large for Ashath and posed a risk of her choking. Even though he could tell how ravenous she was, G’vin didn’t let her gobble the meat bits that passed his inspection.
“Chew Ashath, I mean it. I can’t have you choking.” He patted the emerald on the head, softening his reprimand and felt the tackiness of drying egg fluid on her hide.
“Weyrlingmistress , is there any way I can give Ashath a quick bath after she eats? She’s covered in egg fluid and that’s going to be hard to get off if it dries on her.” The Impressions of the amethyst, sapphire, and topaz out on the Sands didn’t get much of G’vin’s attention; he was too focused on feeding Ashath and not letting her impatience get the better of them. Even so, the hatching of the two queen eggs was enough to make him look up for a moment at the pearls. Like Ashath and Amyth, those two were almost opposites, the larger one black and the smaller a sandy, near white tan.
A screech broke the peace of the Hatching Sands and from the third largest egg, a pure white form dashed toward the black pearl. G’vin couldn’t figure out what it was for too long, until it bowled over the queen and she screamed. The scream gave way to a bubbling sound that made G’vin’s stomach lurch. The diamond, for that was what it had to be, had torn out the black pearl’s throat. Had he thought she was an onyx? Why else would he attack? The mortally wounded pearl disappeared Between dragging the attacking diamond with her and G’vin heard dragons, including his own Ashath keen. She shouldn’t have to mourn for her siblings, not new-hatched like this. The tawny pearl darted for the Stands and didn’t emerge, but there was no more keening, so she must have Impressed.
The rest of the eggs had paused in their shaking as the dragons mourned, but resumed their shaking after and three eggs released their contents. Another sapphire, this one more navy in tone, another amethyst, royal instead of lilac, but with the same sheen as her sister, and the clutch’s first quartz all headed toward the candidates. Two went toward the girls and one to the boys, though the rosy quartz turned around and went back to the boy’s side, stopping at Amelia, who had walked over there at some point. G’vin felt his hand butted hard by Ashath and he went back to feeding her.

Jenesys had been speaking when all of a sudden his words trailed off as if he had lost his train of thought. But it must be hard to keep a thought when a beautiful little Amethyst was standing before you. He grinned, wanted to pat his friend on the back, but didn't know if it was such a good idea. Instead he just whispered a quick 'congrats' before watching the pair join the other Weyrlings. He was glad for his friend, hoped he could feel the same feelings Jenesys was feeling before the Hatching was over, but kept telling himself that lucky breaks weren't in the cards for him, neither was good fortune.
When a rage filled cry tore through the Sands, Duncan felt the hairs on the back of his neck go up. Something bad was about to happen, but while he was looking around for the danger, he couldn't see what was happening, at least until . . . A large Diamond Hatchling had attacked and killed the darker Pearl . . . and before the young Queen had gone to her final resting place, she had taken the aggressive King with her. Both went between and the entire gathering went eerily still. The remaining Pearl bolted for the Stands and luckily found Her's in young Aura. In this dark time, a light had been found. Though to injured to Stand at this Hatching, she had been in the Stands watching . . . That had turned out for the best. Who knows what would have happened had she not been there to accept her shaken Pearl.
But with death came the chance for life. Several eggs hatched after the Pearl took the Diamond between. Though the remaining eggs seemed to have stilled in respect for their loss sister, the few that demanded attention now got it.
~~~~
The events on the Sands happened so fast. Impression, Impression, Impression . . . Panic . . . Blood . . . Death . . . Between. All Anka knew was that her heart cried out for the injustice that had happened on the Sands and somewhere off toward the Candidate barracks, Kia set up a mournful howl, probably having been told by the flit or serpent what had happened. The part of Anka's heart that belonged to animals understood that these things happen. Males come out unstable, or just highly aggressive, and take down whatever they can get their claws on. But the Candidate in her, that wanted all dragons to survive broke as the to high ranking dragons went between.
A lineage of dragons . . . Snuffed out.
Tears ran down her face and her body shook. Rage filled her heart, anger at the Diamond for turning on his sister. Great sadness for the loss of a young Pearl. Fear for what that meant for the Candidate that dragon had picked out for herself, some poor soul may never find their other half because it was taken from them.
When the eggs went still, but several of them Hatched first, Anka had to remind herself that the Hatching wasn't over. There were still eggs on the Sands that needed the Candidates to be strong for them. Taking one hand and wiping away her tears, Anka forced herself together.
Serenity? Why do you just Stand there? Berylth is hungry... The gentle complaint and query came from behind the young girl, but quickly resolved itself into the second Amethyst, who slid around her rider's legs and moved to look up at her, her head cocked ever so faintly in confusion.
I'm coming, Eternity. Please don't leave... Cvath could not stand it if you left... Her voice remained small and shaky, and the egg continued its slow, burdensome trek towards where Cvath could now sense her rider to be. As she reached her, her lack of sight caused her to bump the egg into her, and as if that was all the stress the delicate shell could take, it spiderwebbed, then cracked cleanly in half, revealing a TINY little thing, pale gray in tone with a shimmering, almost faceted looking hide. Looking at her, it was obvious her twin had taken up most of the resources in the egg, for she was at least half the size Demonth had been, and beautifully built, with the classic, rather bulky tone that female Diamonds-for that's what she was-possessed. But the tone of her hide was new, the Weyr used to seeing only the brilliant whites in the Diamonds. However, it was obvious she was healthy, for all of her lack of size, and severely traumatized by sharing an egg with the aggressive Diamond. He thought her an Onyx... He wouldn't LISTEN to me... Maybe if he had they would both still be alive, the little Queen said mournfully as she pressed to Eternity's legs.
The largest remaining egg shifted, then cracked, and revealed the clutch's OTHER King, the Onyx that Demonth had thought poor Sirieth to be. He stood calmly, coolly studying his siblings remaining, the Candidates, the other dragons above him. He took it all in, then strode forwards with all the regality and calm that SHOULD have been shown by his battered Queen sisters. His first stop was towards the Stands to check on Quinith and make sure she was okay, then, as Aura removed her Pearl to the Feeding Stations finally, he nodded approval then turned and headed over to check on Cvath, reassuring himself his sisters were okay. He briefly stopped by the navy Sapphire, who chirped happily at him and recieved an affectionate head butt in return to his side that was gentle so as not to knock him over, before the dark King strode unerringly to Theo, standing calmly before him. T'dore. You shall be the Weyr's next Kingrider. I am Nekoeth. Now come. Food calls to us and we must check on my Clutchmates there.
----------------------
Despite her protests, Kaira had been removed to the sidelines, though was still close in case she had a dragon among those babies remaining. Wyrek was working furiously to try and get her leg to stop bleeding, and finally she looked down at him. "Remove it," she said simply. "It won't stop. She got me too badly." The Master looked up at her in shock, then towards the Sands. "Yes, I know. But this is the better path. If you keep stalling, I'll die!" Kaira snapped, and he started, then reluctantly nodded his agreement with her.
"We can't do it here," he said quietly, and she sighed, knowing what he was telling her. If her dragon was here, she was condemning them to death if they absolutely did this NOW. "Almost all of them are Hatched and Impressed," Wyrek added. "We can keep you stable a little longer, until it ends." Nodding, she closed her eyes and tried to hold consciousness, focusing on the voices of the baby dragons to help her. Oh GOOD. Eternity had Impressed. Thank God. The girl needed it so much, especially after today's events... And Amelia, Serenity, Theodore. All Kaira's babies were being chosen, including, much to her surprise, Aura. Even if Kaira didn't make it, they'd be taken care of...
-----------------------
Aura was shaky as she led her young one across the Sands, taking note of the respectful bows given to her by the riders and blushing, although the heat of the Sands hid the heat in her cheeks. She was just a runaway from New York... What is New York? The question startled her, and she looked down at Quinith, who was looking at her curiously. "It's where I'm from. No concern of your's, for we shall never see it," Aura said quietly, and the Pearl considered this as they joined her clutchmates, though she showed a distinct uneasiness until they'd put some distance between them and the others. Seeing her sister murdered before her eyes by one of them had made Quinith scared of ALL of them, and Aura knew it would take time before she would allow herself to trust them again.
Eternity smiled, blinking her eyes to clear them, and she fell to her knees and wrapped her arms around the tiny Queenling. "Oh, Cveth, I'm never going to leave you," she said quietly. "Now, let's get you fed." Cvath's eyes whirled rainbow, then slowed to a nervous yellow-green. Eternity stood, making sure one hand was always low enough for Cvath to reach it should she want to. Though, she felt the Diamond's hide rubbing against her leg. Then they walked past Kaira. "Oh, Miss Kaira!" She suddenly laughed, despite the severity of the wound on her former instructor's leg. "We'll have matching scars now," she said simply. She made her way through the Healers, putting her arms around the woman. "Miss Kaira, thank you... You protected all of us, and because of you we were given this amazing chance." She pulled back, looking Kaira square in the eyes. "So don't you DARE die on us now, understand?" She smiled and returned to Cvath's side. It was still surprising that her little Diamond Queen was so darkly colored. She could sense Cvath's fear, sadness, pain, all in her own heart. Eternity, will she be alright? asked the tiny Diamond. Eternity sighed quietly. "To be honest, I'm not entirely sure... But she's got the best care on Pern, so all we can do is wait and hope," she explained, sitting down at a feeding station. She reached her hand into the bucket of meat, completely unaffected by the raw meat on her palm, and began to feed Cvath. The little one was too nervous to eat, so Eternity took a different approach. She got to the ground, next to her tiny grey-toned Diamond, and began to sing. At the end of her song, Cvath's eyes had turned from yellow-green to a much calmer oceanic blue color, and she began to take the meat cubes from Eternity's hand. Lenara walked among the ones that had Impressed so far, surprised at the young Pearl Queenling Impressing the girl who still had stitches in her back. Even more surprising was the young girl who had Impressed what looked to be a black dragoness, but... "Oh, she's a Diamond," Eternity spoke up when she saw Lenara looking at Cvath. "Her name's Cvath." She still had tearstreaks down her cheeks, but she was smiling at her little Queenling. Lenara sighed and shook her head, but was smiling all the same. The boy who Impressed the Emerald spoke. "Ah, you can use the cloths in the oil buckets, that should be plenty," she responded. "You'll want to wait a few days to bathe them, they may already be starting to doze off. Hatching is taxing on their small bodies, they will do nothing much beyond eating and sleeping for a month or more." Good to know, Eternity thought. Cvath tilted her head, looking up at the girl. "Oh, it's alright Cvath, you just keep eating."
Tobias was still reeling a bit from not being able to save the two hatchlings. Sure he knew he probably would have gotten seriously mauled but it was not in him to just watch it happen. He was the sort to protect even at if it meant danger for himself. That he had failed was hard to take. Weren't hatchings suppose to be magical, amazing events like no other? Sure they were but... He was left more sober than before.
Watching as more hatched and more impressed. He glanced at the one the Onyx impressed to and felt a small tinge of jealousy. But it faded quickly and he gave the person a respectful nod of his head. He also bowed his head to the one that impressed to the dark Diamond. He had remembered his lessons and which ones were queens and kings. He wanted to show them the respect they now deserved. But what of the others that had impressed? They deserved respect too. They were experiencing something he wasn't entirely sure he wanted anymore. Let them have their soul mates. He'd be just fine on his own. He didn't need anyone else. He just wanted to be left alone. Sure he'd come to their aid if needed but friends? He was better off alone.
Clenching his jaw briefly he continued to stand there obediently until it would all be over. When it was over, he'd leave quietly and go visit his fox hole, the crash site again.
The Sapphire abruptly halted, and his head turned sharply, his eyes fixing on the one who he could feel had become distressed and downtrodden. Snorting, the little male-now done playing around and deadly serious- strode towards Tobias with all the finality and firmness that his Onyx brother had shown, stopping before him and shifting to sit back on his haunches. The idea that he would have crossed his little forepaws if he could was there in his posture, and he just looked at Tobias. No. You are not leaving without Lorith, T'bias, he said firmly, his tone surprisingly deep for one so young, and his gaze almost unnervingly intense. He would definitely be one to be dealt with when he was older, and the fact he was actually surprisingly large for one of his hue-only noticeable really when Nekoeth had gone by him and revealed Lorith was almost as big as he was- only added to this factor.
Amyth had stopped as well and turned her head, watching the exchange between her brother and His. She wheeled as a sharp crack resounded through the cavern, and a second Topaz-this one a palze, ocean hued blue-tumbled tail over head from his shell, ending up on his back looking at the Candidates. D'can, why are you standing on the ceiling? he asked, sounding inordinately confused. He then seemed to consider and flipped himself over. Oh, MUCH better. Irith wasn't sure there for a moment.
The Emerald shook her head, then turned once more and continued forwards. K'avu, why must you be so far away! she abruptly snapped irritably. Amyth is HUNGRY and tired of walking on this ever shifting ground. As Amyth finally chose her own, the final two eggs popped open, revealing another Emerald-this one a pale sea-toned hue with dark flecks- who danced towards the girls, and a third Sapphire in a swirled sapphire and skyblue tone, who strode mildly to the boys, seeming to be smiling the whole while.
Anka. Wureth is tired. And hungry. Can we get food and then sleep?
N'lon. Dedreth has finally broken free of that thing. Can we get food? I'm starving.
And with that, it was all over, the chaos, the pain, the joy and uncertainty. All the eggs save one had Hatched, that one having been deemed a dud when it showed no signs of movement even as it siblings did and been pushed off to the side. Most of the Dragonets born had Impressed without issues, and the only deaths had resulted from a deep-rooted jealousy and hatred of one King for the other, though confusion had taken its toll.
As the final dragonets hatched and Impressed, Kaira tried to focus, hearing Eternity speaking to her, feeling her hug. She was in too much pain to respond, and once Eternity had left, the Healers removed her from the Cavern to begin the tricky process of fulfilling her demand. She would never again Stand as a Candidate, and even that small task of standing would become her worst nightmare...
Aura was silent as she watched the remainder of the Hatching from Quinith's side, stroking the sandy head reassuringly, soothing her and making sure that it was made clear she wanted to be left alone for now. As Tobias Impressed, she smiled, happy for him and his handsome little Sapphire, who her Queen told her was named Lorith. A good, sturdy male, she thought, and felt more than heard Quinith's small sound of agreement, though the Pearl still regarded him, as the others, as a possible threat to her health. Sighing, Aura gave T'bias a thumbs-up of congratulations, but also indicated he couldn't come over and speak with her, even though she wanted him to.
