"Of course," Eternity agreed quickly. "There should be a Candidate Lesson soon, especially for us. We'll have to catch up to the others by the time the next Queen Rises and lays her eggs... If we're too far behind, we won't be able to Stand for the Clutch... And you're pretty close to aging out, so you might not even have to worry about it." She went thoughtful again, trying to remember what she'd read in the books. "Though, boys age out faster than girls... I think the reason has something to do about how a dragon's mentality changes in the first two years-Turns-of his or her life. But they do recognize that some Riders become what they are BECAUSE of the dragon." She stopped again, thinking.
"Well, don't take me at my word," she admitted. "There's a lot of debate online about the reasoning behind what happened in the books..." She sighed quietly. "You know, I'm thinking about becoming a Harper, taking a late apprenticeship. You could join the healers, learn from them and teach them things that you learned from school. There's probably a place for everyone here, we've just got to find it." She took a breath, singing quietly.
Let your heart, sweetheart be your compass when you're lost. And you should follow it wherever it may go. When it's all said and done, you can walk instead of run. Cause no matter what you'll never be alone.

She cocked her head slightly as she listened to Eternity explained. Aging out? she thought, then it clicked. Ah, too old to try for a dragon. So there was an age limit then. Mentality... Had to relate to the dragon's thought processes shifting as they aged, she thought. She'd heard the elder dragons-apparently-and could tell each had their own distinct personality, something that would, as with any baby, develop with age.
"We will need to find our place here," she murmured softly. "Chances of us returning home are just too small. I know it's painful to hear." She sighed softly, then listened as the girl began to sing. "Harper... I'm assuming they are the musicians of this world. So yes, you are definitely fit to be one of those." She was quiet a long moment, just standing and looking over the ocean, her hands swept behind her back, her hazel eyes distant. "I almost match some of those Masters down there," she said quietly. "At least so far as the KNOWLEDGE is concerned. The actual TRAINING though? In that case I'm really only as good as some of the Journeymen."
