Eternity had climbed one of the small trees by the lake's shore, and was sitting on a lower branch with her legs swinging and one palm touching the trunk. With her other hand, she tapped out a soft beat onto the branch. Her eyes were closed, and the wind blew her hair back. Her lips parted, and a song began to form on the wind. Soft, quiet, and gentle. One of the few songs that she knew would be easy for the Pern-born to understand. As she sang, a little blue and gold form settled itself on her shoulder.
You and me,
together we'll be.
Forever you'll see.
We two can be good company.
You and me.
Yes, together we two.
Together that's you.
Forever with me.
We'll always be good company.
You and me.
Yes, together we'll be.
It was a simple song, really, but that was how she felt about both the little Lapis that was often settled on her shoulder, and the black pup that was curled up in the sun at the base of the tree. She looked down at the puppy and laughed. She'd never had pets on Earth; her parents had always been away, the twins didn't much like animals. And Eternity herself had been busy with her acting career. She'd been used to being so busy... Her legs stopped swinging, and the beat her hand had been making died out. She'd always been busy... But Serenity had been the one left alone... Eternity sighed quietly. She never would've realized this if everything had gone the way it was supposed to... But life had a tendency of doing the unexpected, and you had no choice but to roll with it.
Especially now. There was a Clutch of dragon eggs, bound to Hatch any day now! She was going to be a Rider! That thought made her heart leap again, and she found her legs swinging in the air once more. She closed her eyes as a breeze blew her hair back from her face. It was so peaceful here... No extra noise from cars, televisions, radios... The only sounds were from the Harpers instruments and the sounds of the animals in the trees outside the Weyr's half-finished walls. She liked the nature that surrounded them. It helped her forget.
