Lenara stretched, looking out at the horizon as Rukbat began to rise. The temperature was perfect right at that moment.
"Call them," she said to the Aquamarine next to her.
Weyrlings, you have one candlemark to get to the Bowl for your first lesson. Make sure your dragon is fed and oiled, and that you are dressed for a workout. ________
Eternity had just woken up when the voice rang through her mind. The gnawing hunger in her stomach wasn't her own, that much she had already learned. It had only been a few days since the Hatching, but already she knew enough to keep her mind separate from that of her Cvath. The tiny Diamond poked her muzzle into Eternity's face, causing the girl to cough at the rancid breath. "Okay, okay, I'm awake Cvath..." she muttered sleepily. She sat up, pushing the grey-toned Diamond out of her face. "Man, it's only been a few days and you're already getting big..." She sighed and shook her head, smiling slightly. She dressed quickly, but the clothing on Pern wasn't particularly workout-friendly. She decided on a pair of light trousers and a short-sleeved tunic. She looked at her new leather riding suit and ran her fingers over the knots on the shoulders. She wasn't dreaming. She was a Queenrider, and to a special little Queen at that.
Eternity, they brought meat, and the oil bucket is still here from last night.
"Alright, alright! But remember to eat slowly! If us Riders are working out, you guys probably are too." She laughed at the sight of Cvath with her head in the bucket of fresh cubed meat, and stuck her own hands into the oil, working from the tail to the head. Total time taken to oil the tiny dragoness was... About forty minutes? Just about. It was easier to oil Cvath when she was eating; she didn't squirm quite so much. Her tail was always the hardest part to oil, it was never still.
"Let's get going, it'll take a little bit longer to get to the Bowl from here." Cvath had eaten her fill, and the bucket was left outside her room. Unlike the others, Eternity didn't have a roommate in the Weyrlings barracks. Well, Aura was going to be in the same boat as her, being another Queenrider. Hopefully, Cvath wouldn't be small forever... She was certainly eating like the others. The pair began to walk toward the Bowl, passing other rooms along the way. It looked like they were the first ones out? No, a few of the others had beaten them, but it didn't really matter.
Eternity could sense Cvath's nervousness around the others. And the girl felt sorry for the little Diamond. She had been forced to share an egg with the Diamond King who had killed Cvath's Black Pearl sister. Eternity got to her knees on the ground, running one hand over Cvath's spinal ridge in an attempt to calm the little grey-toned Diamond.

Aura was already awake, used to waking up before the sun, or in this case Rukbat, ever rose. In direct contrast, however, Quinith was refusing to leave her little dragonbed, curled tightly in on herself. Aura had waved a hand at her, stroking her soft hide, then set to work mending the clothing the little Pearl had accidentally ripped the night before. She was almost done when she heard the call, and her head rose, emerald gaze going to Quinith. Aura had managed to convey at the Hatching that Quinith was to be left be by her siblings, but now she would HAVE to interact with them, if only in this small way. Watching her as the sandy baby only curled in tighter, Aura sighed and moved to kneel at her side. "Come my love. We have to do this," she said gently, and Quinith made a distinct sound of dissent. "Quinith. We have no choice. Do you wish to be stuck with the title of Weyrling forever?"
If it means I don't have to be around them, I don't care, the Queen responded shortly, and Aura's eyes narrowed at her. She swatted her Bonded's rump smartly, and Quinith yelped and jumped up, growling at her.
"None of that gloom and doom you!" Aura snapped at her, and Quinith flinched backwards somewhat. "Now. We HAVE to do this. I know you don't want to, but you are a Queen. You are the example for your Clutchmates."
Cvath can be their example. I don't want to.
"But you will. Now. Come on. We will not be the Leaders we are meant to be if we cannot interact with our fellow dragons, and you must start with your own Clutchmates. They are YOUR dragons. Not these adults. These adults are Gerith's, are Aketh's. Your clutchmates are YOUR'S." Aura's firmness, her prodding, finally got the Pearl to her feet and she followed her sullenly as she dressed in loose pants and a tunic in a soft beige tone. They then headed to the Bowl, the Hatchling remaining on edge and on the other side of Aura, keeping her between herself and the other Weyrlings. Aura just sighed and rubbed her headknobs soothingly, knowing she would get over it eventually.

D'can of Topaz Irith D'can!!! Tell the Aquamarine 5 more minutes! D'can heard, causing Scots to grin. Curled up on his sleeping area, Irith was trying to hide himself under his tail, while also folding his wings over his head. It was adorable and as a result, Adhainn had picked up the habit and was mimicking the Topaz whenever she could. Grinning, D'can picked up the meat bucket and shook it a little. The result, Irith's head shot out from under his wings so quickly he almost rolled himself off the couch. FOOD! the young Topaz all but bugled, causing D'can to place his hands over his ears, and duck his head.
Be careful, Irith, he mentally sent, able to get through to his Topaz that way, enough to get him to quiet down at least. "Thank ye, laddy. Ye need tae eat, den we'll be cleanin' ye up, and off tae de lesson. Nae questions, buts, or 'but I want tae sleep,'" he stated, his voice stern. They had been though this on several mornings. Irith didn't want to get up and would try just about every trick in the book to not get off his couch.
Anka of Emerald Wureth It wasn't odd having Wureth around, but it was quiet clear that Kia wasn't interested, which meant neither was Imp. Both canines had started sleeping in the Weyrling Common Room and she was sure that it had something to do with the fact that it was her, Wureth, Caoir, Gaol, Kia, and Imp all trying to sleep on the little space Weyrling's were given. Hopefully once they moved into their own weyr, the canines would return.
Anka!! Anka!!! It's time to get up!!! Wureth all but screamed into her mind. The little Emerald was just so excitable, and poor Anka hadn't been getting much sleep, so it was a little hard to get herself out of bed. At least until Gaol and Caoir dropped down onto her. It she didn't move soon Wureth would think she could join the flit and serpent and she's find herself pinned under the growing Emerald again. "I'm up! I'm up!!" she called, having to physically remove her pets and quickly get out of bed.
Feeding Wureth wasn't a problem. During the washing and oiling lesson, the Weyrling Mistress' Aquamarine had stayed still . . . Wureth did not! Anka often ended up wearing more oil than Wureth, but she couldn't be angry with the Emerald, she was just so excited about life. "Alright . . . we're both oiled now . . . let's get to the lesson!" Anka stated, the pair walking out of the barracks. Gaol was curled up on Wureth's head, and Gaoir sat on Anka's shoulder, long tail wrapped around her forearm. All four were ready for whatever the Weyrling Mistress had for them!

"Alright! Now that most of you are here, we can get started," Lenara said over the voices of the gathered Weyrlings. First, this will be a seperate lesson. Riders are with me, and the dragons are to gather by Iabureth." She waited until the separation was complete before continuing. "Riders, you will need to keep in shape if you are going to be able to ride your dragons when they are large enough. Today's lesson for you is not so much a lesson as it is a training regime. Every morning, at least five laps around the Bowl, if you can do more than do so. Or you can swim laps in the lake. Afternoons are to be devoted to your dragons and your chores. And in the evenings, you will do weight training so you can carry the bags of Firestone once we begin flame training." She looked at the two Queenriders.
"Lady Aura, you will have a very specific regime until you are cleared by the Healers," she added. "Do what you can, but I do not want to see you in the infirmary because you pulled your stitches. And neither of the Queens will do Flame training, instead you both will have a special lesson with Lin and Aketh." She looked at the gathered. "Well? Get going! Five laps around the Bowl, now!" _________
Meanwhile, Iabureth had taken the Hatchlings off to the side, near the lake.
Just as they are, we will be doing exercises as well, she told them. Wing and leg strengthening. Now, watch and do as I do. She flared her wings as wide as they would go, then moved them up high, rotated them, and all the normal things a dragon does with their wings while in the air. You will do these exercises three times a day, and as you grow you will do them more. Once you are able to fly, you will only need to do these in the morning and at night.
Despite her reluctance, Cvath made her way after the Aquamarine. She took comfort in the mental bond, and in knowing that there was an adult dragon watching over them if intervention was needed. She kept her distance regardless, and mimicked the instructor's movements. She glanced over at her Pearl sister, but said nothing. There was just some sort of difference. As afraid as Quinith was, she hadn't been the one forced to share an egg with their Diamond brother. Cvath felt that Quinith just wasn't trying hard enough. At least Cvath was attempting.
Be nice, Eternity scolded as she jogged around the Bowl.
I am trying Mine, but she is not trying hard enough! The use of the word Mine threw Eternity off, causing her to stumble. She caught herself and resumed her jog. And before you say I didn't see it, I did! Quinith was in no danger of being hurt by him... It was because she looked like Nekoeth, that is all... The way Cvath was attempting to rationalize it was strange, but Eternity understood. She'd lost her own sister too, after all.
Cvath, this isn't like you... Please, be nice to her. Remember, she does rank above you.
Cvath grumbled and didn't respond, focusing on her wing exercises. Eternity gave a breathless laugh, then went back to focusing on running without falling.

Aura and Quinith listened intently, and the Pearl balked at their instructions, as Aura had expected her to. Quinith, you must do this, she said firmly, and her Queen resisted the urge to hiss, though Aura felt it. None of that. I do not want Iabureth telling me you refused to do as told. They are not going to hurt you, I promise. She will not let them. Despite her reassurance, the Pearl refused to leave her side, and she sighed. "Give us a few moments please, Miss Lenara," she said quietly, and took the Queen off to the side. Kneeling before her, she held her muzzle firmly in her hands, forcing her to meet her gaze. "I will not let any of them hurt you, you know that. And neither will Iabureth. She wants to see us succeed as much as I do, as much as I KNOW you do, even though you hide it." But Aura- "No buts, Quinith. This MUST be done. And I will not leave you fully. You know I will always be there in your mind, in your heart, as you are in mine. Now, be a good girl and go over with Iabureth and your siblings. Show them you are brave. Prove to them you are worth their respect." The Pearl grumbled, but then bowed her head, accepting her rider's words, her persuasion, and turned. Though she trembled like a leaf, she did as asked, padding over and sitting near Iabureth, close enough that the Aquamarine was more than capable of interfering if something went wrong. She then listened attentively, and did as instructed, not wishing her rider to be disappointed in her, though she was still scared.
Aura watched her, made sure she was doing as told, then nodded to herself and moved to do as SHE had been told. She moved slowly, but steadily and without pain, much different from that first time, she thought, wincing as she recalled the flaming pain in her spine that day. She'd not been ready, and it was probably a good thing she'd been allowed three months to heal before becoming Quinith's rider. Otherwise, she wouldn't be up to this, she was sure. Sighing, she let her mind drift, though half of it remained focused on her dragon of course, and just continued her steady jog, aware of her own body in more ways than she'd once been due to this severe injury.

J`sys, you need to get up. I know you're tired, but there are things that must be donea dn you can't do them from bed.
He still wasn't used to the name change and he and Pifth had discussed long into the night why she had to shorten his name. There was no really explanation, only that this is how things were done. He accepted...then other things had come up that hadn't really been resolved, though they'd come to the decision to speak about it further when they had time and weren't studying or sleeping. The young man groaned as he turned over in bed onto his belly. He shuffled onto his hands and knees as he pressed himself up yawning and running his fingers through his long hair.
"Why must we be up so early?" he asked, voice a bit rough from sleep.
Iabureth has called for lessons. She says to be sure I am fed nd oils and you are dressed for exercises,[/color] Pifth said matter-of-factly. J`sys blinked before nodding and finally crawling out of bed. After running a comb through his head and tying it back after dressing he made sure to feed Pifth to her fill then oiled her. "We'll bathe you again after exercises, you're hide is too pretty to be covered in dust from your bed," he smiled, slender fingers stroking her eye ridges. The little Amethyst crooned happily before nudging his hand. Only after you eat and we can talk more afterwards.
J`sys nodded and he turned to see if Spring and Lazuli would be joining them but saw they were still curled up together on his second pillow and so, followed Pifth out to Weyrbowl. Pifth was a bit reluctant to leave J`sys's side but it would be for too long so they split to their respective teachers. He smiled at the other Weyrlings and gave a wave to D`can when he saw him with the other Weyrlings before turning his attention to Lenara. When he heard what they were going to do J`sys sighed...he never liked exercising...not back on Earth, there were always people around who would mess with him so he stayed as far away from gyms as he could. Instead he got into...aha!! Swimming! Well...he wasn't dressed for swimming but...
"Excuse me...could I go change into something for swimming?" he asked. The lake was fairly big, but he knew that once he got into it, he'd be fine...for a little bit at least.
Pifth watched Iabureth perform the exercises a few times. She did want to fly one day...she and J`sys up in the sky with not a care in the world where minds would meld and ideas could be born...oh yes! She wanted that now. Spreading her wings out as far as she could she began to copy Iabureth, though her movements were no way as controlled or streamline as the more experienced Aquamarine...but she tried.

.: Serenity and Berylth :.
Serenity groaned as Iabureth called for the weyrlings to arrive for their morning lesson. She had been suffering terrible headaches ever since the hatching. She had gone to the healers and been told that while it was uncommon, some people did get head-pains as they adjusted to the impression bond.
Serenity. Time to get up Berylth stuck her nose under her rider's blankets poking her insistently. Serenity groaned. I am hungry Serenity, and we must not be late for lessons. "Right, I'm up, I'm up" Serenity said, rolling out of bed. She was rubbing her eyes with one hand and her temple with the other as she yawned. Berylth pressed her head gently against Serenity's hip and then stepped back, following after her as she got ready.
No, not that Berylth grabbed the brown shirt Serenity had just picked up and pulled it out of her rider's hands. That one The amethyst indicated another shirt, a simple mid blue in shade. "Alright" Serenity was laughing as she picked up the now abandoned shirt which Berlyth had rejected and put it away and then pulled out the blue one. Her choice of a dark pair of pants was accepted, which Serenity was thankful for, because she only had a few and she didn't need Berlyth putting baby dragon teeth holes in any of them. It had been luck that she hadn't put any into the shirt.
Feeding and Oiling Berylth wasn't the easiest of tasks, mostly because Lily and Thorn tried to help her and usually ended up getting in the way. The flits weren't much more than hatchlings themselves and didn't quite understand what it was Serenity was doing. Though it did mean she had them all in one place and Serenity had found in the past few days that oiling them all at the same time seemed to be the most efficient thing to do.
The idea of a physical training regime made sense to Serenity. While she'd never been one to work out constantly, Serenity was no couch-potato either and she thought she should be able to keep up with the laps around the weyrbowl. She had always preferred to take walks for her physical exercise rather than going to a gym, so this wasn't too far out of her usual realm of work-out.
Berylth followed Iabureth away from the humans, though she looked back a time or two to make sure that her human was alright. Of course, this ended with her tripping over one of her own feet and left the amethyst in a sprawl of limbs. I'm alright She announced and she pulled herself together and got to her feet. I'm dirty though this was said in a tone of distaste, for Berylth did not like the sensation of having dirt clinging to her. She paused to shake off as much as she could, which was almost all of it, before continuing.
The exercises Iabureth gave them seemed simple enough and Berylth settled herself next to Pifth. Hello Pifth She greeted her sister.

Anka of Emerald Wureth When they were told that this was going to be a separate lesson, Anka felt Wureth panic a little, before she mentally soothed the little Emerald. Why don't you keep Caoir and Gaol with you, my dear one? Anka mentally asked, shooing her flit and serpent off toward the Emerald. But what about you, Anka? Don't you want someone to run with you? the Emerald asked. Kia will come run with me. Once the other Weyrlings start running, I'll call him and we'll run that way, she offered, hearing that Wureth had finally calmed down and joined the other hatchlings that were gathered around the Aquamarine dragon.
Seeing that Wureth was with the other hatchlings, Anka listened to the instructions given to them by the Weyrling Mistress. Five laps. That didn't sound to difficult. She ran every morning with Kia and Imp and was constantly moving quickly with the runners, so five laps shouldn't be to hard on her. Nodding when the Weyrling Mistress said to get started, Anka turned back toward the barracks, but didn't move toward them. Instead, she let out a long, high whistle that had Caoir and Gaol looking toward her for a moment. Before long, Kia was trotting out toward the group and before he joined her, Anka turned and began jogging around the Bowl. Pretty soon Kia had caught up to her and she let him set the pace. Of course, the canine set a tough pace, but Anka kept up with him for a bit.
D'can of Topaz Irith Running? The weight training he could do. He had kept that up throughout prison and afterwards, but running. You thought about prison again, Irith pointed out, causing D'can to almost trip over his own to feet. They had had a discussion about D'can's past but the Topaz just didn't seem to get it. As a result, D'can had told himself that he wouldn't think about things from the past, so as not to confuse the little guy. Sorry. Go on and do your exercises, he sent, turning and beginning the five laps that the Weyrling Mistress called for.
He hated running.

Cvath was watching Hers, but most of the tiny Queen's attention was focused on the movements they were supposed to be doing. Iabureth's head wandered over the gathered dragonets, watching. She lowered her head and gently brushed the young Pearl's mind with her own. Little one, your wing angle is off just slightly. Try rotating them back a little more. Cvath didn't pay attention to the other Queen, they weren't supposed to talk to her right now anyway. Instead, she found her eyes being drawn to the pale blue hide of Topaz Irith, and she flicked her tail at him, looking away quickly when he turned toward her.
She glanced back at Irith, a slight grin on her face as she flicked his paws with her tail again. These exercises were pretty boring... She was trying to behave, but she really did just want to play. They weren't going to be able to fly for a LONG time after all. She understood the point of the whole thing, but that didn't make it any more entertaining. This time she met Irith's gaze when he looked at her, and she stuck out her tongue in a rather humorous imitation of a young version of Hers.

It was only after permission was given that J`sys hurried back to he Barracks to change. It was a bit chilly outside, but he knew once he was swimming he'd be just fine. He stretched for a good while, warming up his muscles as he watched the others run around the Bowl. Once he felt limber enough he slipped into the water he slid in like a fish to start his laps.
Pifth felt the chill of the water through her Bond with J`sys and lifted her a bit to look at all the people running around. She didn't see J`sys. Whining softly she lifted herself onto her hindlegs and looked around before noticing the shape in the water. It took her a moment but she eventually relaxed and lowered herself onto all fours again...she wished he'd told her he was going to do something other then what the others were doing so she knew where he was. She looked over at the voice of her sister Amethyst and crooned in welcome. Hello, Berylth, how are you this morni...oh my, what happened, you are absolutely filthy. Do you want to join me and Mine for a bath after exercise?

It was strange, Amelia mused as she and her dragon made their way to the Weyrbowl, how quickly she had grown accustomed to the presence of another in her mind. It was as if Kikith had always been there, as if her brain had been designed to accommodate the cheery presence of her blush-toned lifemate. Her sense of pre-Kikith self was dwindling at a rate that ought to have been alarming. Curiously, she was not at all miffed. Odd, that. Perhaps it was some coping mechanism of the brain, designed to aid in withstanding what was effectively an alien invasion. Whatever it was, Amelia found herself still enjoying the post-Impression high as she idly traced a pinkish-cream swirl on Kikith's neck. Due to her fresh oiling or natural coloration, the young quartz fairly sparkled in the rising sunlight. Amelia was, as she had been quite a few times since the moment of Impression, captivated by the vision of sheer perfection before her.
She was still mystified by her sheer wonderful luck as she and Kikith approached the rest of the group. Kikith crooned a demure greeting, but when she heard they were to be separated from their bonds, she deflated somewhat.
I want to stay with you! Kikith uttered mournfully, nudging the arm Amelia had draped across her slender body. She fixed the young woman with her most piteous stare. Though Amelia chuckled, she felt a twinge of regret at their parting, too.
I'll just be right here in the Bowl, my love. It won't be for long. The sooner you finish your lesson, the sooner we shall be reunited.
The quartz apparently took this very seriously, for she toddled closer to Iabureth and fixed her undivided attention on the Weyrlingmistress's dragon. She set too her exercises with great gusto, although perhaps she was rushing a bit more than she ought.
Amelia was far less invested in her own exercise. She stretched quietly for a few moments before she felt ready to run, and then she naturally gravitated toward her sister. She nudged Serenity's shoulder in tacit greeting. Her eyes flickered toward the lovely amethyst the youngest Miller had Impressed. Even covered in dirt, she thought the hatchling was quite pretty, much like Serenity herself.
"Run with me?" she questioned, grinning.
..:N'lon and Dedeth:..
N'lon hadn't been able to sleep. He'd been full of restless, euphoric energy that hadn't faded yet. He had been afraid that he'd rouse Dedeth, but the thoroughly-satiated Sapphire dropped into utterly untroubled sleep the moment he'd curled on his couch. N'lon had elected to forgo his cot, instead contorting himself around the blue-swirled tangle of limbs that was his new life. In lieu of sleep his brain had apparently elected to memorize every fingerlength of Dedreth's hide. It was only just before sunrise, when he normally would've roused from long habit, that the heavy weight of exhaustion penetrated the happy cloud of his thoughts and the Weyrling dropped into slumber.
And so it was that just after that, he was dragged from unconsciousness by Dedeth's snout persistently prodding his shoulder.
Wake up, N'lon! The exasperated Sapphire's eyes were whirling rapidly, their serene blue tinged with flecks of red. I'm starving, and we have a lesson!
The urgency in his dragon's tone was enough to dislodge the lack-of-sleep fog, at least for now. He suppressed a groan as he hauled himself upright. The sight of Dedeth shifting impatiently as he dressed was enough to elicit a tired smile. Both Shee and Merc, who had felt the need to crowd onto the dragon's couch as well (the fire-lizard was especially jealous, it turned out), cracked open an eye. Apparently, neither of them found the prospect of a lesson appealing, because they both promptly closed them again. Perhaps fortuitously unencumbered by his small companions, N'lon fed and bathed and oiled the dragon, and then it was Dedeth's turn to fight off exhaustion. It rolled off the sated dragonet in waves, and N'lon playfully slapped his flank.
Wake up, my dear! We can't both of us fall asleep during this lesson!
The dragon, at least, was excited at the prospect of both the lesson and seeing his clutchmates. He caroled a very enthusiastic hello as soon as they were in range of the group, and he didn't seem perturbed in the slightest to be ushered toward Iabureth and away from his bond. He was less enthused about the monotonous exercises, but not even that could dampen his bubbly spirit. He sidled up to Wureth and chirped happily at the Emerald.
Good morning, Wureth,[/font[ he offered even as he flared his wings, trying valiantly to copy the smooth motion of the Aquamarine leading them.

Quinith started as Iabureth spoke to her, having been focused entirely on her exercises to try and fight off the fear of her clutchmates. She looked up at the Aquamarine, blinking a couple of times before the words registered and she crooned softly to the elder female, then adjusted what she was doing. She looked up once more to their teacher, silently asking if she was doing it right now or still needed to shift some.
Aura continued her slow lope around the Bowl, not ignoring her fellow Weyrlings, just moving a little slower than the rest, and therefore being alone. It was an odd feeling, being one of them and yet being alone, and she didn't like it at all. But she also knew not to push herself, since she didn't wish to hurt herself.
