The tunnels were dark and quiet, empty of everything and yet still alive in their own, strange ways. Within those tunnels, something shifted, sliding along the floor and into another room. A soft sound, a thud, as something was dropped and taken by another, then all that could be heard was a soft ripping and tearing, occasional crunching as bone resisted the invasion. Once the offering was done, the one who had made it moved to sit on a small ledge and watch over the one it had been offered to.

Serenity had taken to exploring as her method of coping. She was one of the less injured of the survivors, her wounds being minor cuts and scraps and an exhaustion which had taken some time to recover from. Now though, she had been left largely to her own devices. Which she was fine with, there were lots of folks who needed the attention of the healers and adults far more than she did. Still, there was only so often that she could bother the natives about their world before she started getting odd looks, well odder looks than normal because all of the earthers got strange looks from the natives for their different ways. And sometimes it was nice to just get away from it all, to be left alone with only he mind and the wilds for company.
Today, Sen had taken herself to a cave system she had found. She had taken one of the baskets of glowing moss that the people here used for lighting, with the intention of wandering far enough into the caves that she would need it. Usually she went and explored the meadows and fields, but today felt like a good day for darkness and the solidity of stone.
She walked slowly, taking in all that she could of the rocks, a beauty in their form which she knew few appreciated.

The approach of the light caused a stir among the shadows in the cavern-which was easily large enough for one of those bipedal things they were trying to avoid-and they proceeded to try and gather all of their members and regroup elsewhere, their skittering dying away quickly into the darkness.
What they didn't know was that they had left several small and rather distinctive items behind, including a small bit of membrane, gnawed bones, and, most important of all, three small orbs of a soft creamy hue. They'd been overlooked in the rush to get out, and were now left unattended and in danger from a slinky creature hovering nearby...

A slithering skittering noise caught Serenity's attention, the girl turning quickly to try and catch sight of whatever was making the sounds. She had been warned about the dangers of this world when she had started wandering off, and warned specifically against the vicious and poisonous tunnelsnakes, which she had been told could easily kill a grown man if they were not treated in time. For a 'mere slip of a girl' like her, it wouldn't take nearly as long.
She didn't catch sight of what had made the noise, but the light glanced over what it had left behind. Frowning, Serenity stepped closer, trying to understand what it was she was seeing. Bones, clearly chewed on by a predator of some kind. A thin layer skin? Maybe something was shedding or had simply injured itself and left that behind, though she didn't see anything which she could identify as blood. It was the little orbs though that caught her attention the most.
"Are those eggs?" The question was spoken to empty air as she carefully reached out to touch one. They were either rocks or eggs and either way, she would pick them up and take them home, since they had clearly been abandoned.

A hiss in the corner as the light came in was the only clue there was something in the room with her, but it quickly exited, slithering out through a small crack.
The orbs were not perfectly round, slightly oval in shape, and were, while not soft, not hard either. In color, they were a gentle, creamy shading, one with shimmers of greenish tone, the others speckled with brown and light tans. One of the speckled ones had a distinctive marking, much like a star to the observant types, while the other was just speckled, though larger than the other two.

A hissing sound from one of the darkened corners where her light did not touch pulled Serenity around, her hand going to touch the knife one of the riders had given her. She didn't really know how to use it, but she had been promised lessons and it had seemed like a sensible thing at the time. Serenity had always loved learning about different cultures, and the people here all seemed to carry some kind of knife, though for most it seemed to just be a general multi-purpose tool rather than something specifically for fighting with.
She lifted the light higher, but whatever had been there was gone now and thus she turned her attention back to the orbs. "I definitely think you are eggs" Serenity said, running gentle fingers over them. "You're all so pretty" She told the eggs, marvelling at how different they all were "I wonder what lay you"
