Theodore had been veyr pleased to find out that Pern had card games. Admittedly, they weren't particularly like the card games he was used to, but the cards did bare some resemblance to the ones he was used to, enough that he could play the ones he was used to as well as starting to as well as learning the games which the pernese played. Right now though, he had a simple game of solitaire set up on the table before him. He didn't have anyone to play a two-person game with, and he wasn't in the mood to try and remember the rules for anything more complicated than solitaire. He still had trouble with the cards sometimes, looking at them and expecting to see the symbols he was familiar with and being startled each time by the unusual suits and images on these cards. But, like so much else, it was something he needed to get used to.
Setting down another card, Theo used his free hand to pet the little creature which was curled up in his lap. Kestrel was napping, as babies were given to do. The pearl had been happily playing with the little cloth ball he had gotten for her, up until a few minutes ago when she had picked it up, dropped it next to him and then flopped down in his lap to sleep. He couldn't help but smile at her. The little firelizard had been a good thing for him. Having the hatchling to care for and focus on had been oddly relaxing, bringing Theo a sense of contentment which he'd not had in a long while. Perhaps that was in part simply the hatchling's happy emotions affecting his own, but if so, Theo certainly wasn't going to be complaining about it. Part of it was likely also having his twin finally cleared of the infection which had taken her and Amelia joining him in the candidate barracks.
Life was something of a waiting game now. Supposedly it would not be too long before the eggs which were on the sands would be ready to hatch, and when that day came, he and his sisters might well walk away from those sands with a dragon. It was something which Theodore was definitely looking forward to, the chance of finding himself a true place here, a place where his protective instincts could be put to good use, and the eternal companionship which the riders spoke of when he asked about their dragons.
"Just have to be patient" He said softly to the flitter in his lap.
