Will was not sure he really liked this place Pern. He had accepted he was here to stay, there was no way of getting back and that was ok, but he missed home. He missed things he took for granted, like his Harley Davidson he had been given for his birthday. he missed Duke, the old family dog, he had practically grown up with the old mut, now he would never see him again and that pierced his heart like a lance. He missed a cold beer on a friday night, with fried chicken and grits. What he would do for some of his mother's home made scones....food here just wasn't the same and Will was struggling. Right now he wanted to get his teeth into a big, juicy steak...
Sighing he looked at the little flitter asleep in his arm. He had found the egg, not really sure what it was. Sure he had seen others with the little things, but he had never expected to get one himself. Now he had Glory, a little Pearl flit, some had been rather rude that he should have a queen, but to him she was cute, a possible replacement for Duke. But right now all she did was sleep, eat and screech. He sighed again, sipping stuff they called klah from a harsh rough mug, he missed the finely polished china his mother had, or a nice heavy crystal glass with a couple of fingers of JD. He sighed yet again as he looked around, wondering if any of the others were feeling the same way?

Duncan missed lights. Like the kind that you turned on when walking down a dark hallway just to make sure you don't run into anything . . . Something he was doing a lot of, even though he was use to living in pseudo darkness. Turning the corner, Duncan found himself in the dining area, eyes of the Pern-born glancing at him and quickly away, as if he was some kind of thing that was better to be ignored than spoken to. Some of the Pern-born were accepting of those that had crashed from Earth . . . others were highly against them being there. When he had bonded with Adhainn, one man had even told him that he should just kill the aquamarine due to her not going to grow and learn as the other firelizards would. Duncan's temper had gotten the better of him and he had struck the older man, but after a few days, the man had come forward and they both apologized. It seemed tempers had run high that day, but all had been worked out.
Now the question was, would everything work out when the eggs started hatching and an Earth-born Impressed a dragon hatchling?
Seeing a fellow Earth-born, Duncan made a bee line for his table, pausing only when some fellow Candidate's crossed his path and he had to stop least he run them over. "Hey . . . Mind if I join you?" he asked, finally reaching the table. His Adhainn cooed as she noticed the young man's pearl, though it wasa soft coo, one that sounded as if the aquamarine was saying 'look how cute' to the pearl sleeping.

Will smiled at Duncan. He knew him vaguely but not really well. This was a good chance to do just that. "Sure, have a seat" he gestured to the chairs around the table. "So, how you finding things?" He asked, seeing his little aqua flit.
"You got one a well huh?" He grinned, "never seen anything like 'em. All she does right now is eat and sleep" He said with a chuckle as he stroked his finger across her nose, making her tremble with pleasure.

Tobias saw Duncan heading straight for him as he crossed paths with him. Like the other earthling candidate, he hesitated in his movement to avoid collision. He did not know Duncan or Will. Not really. He knew their names though as he had heard them called on a few occasions, both here and back when they were headed up into space. Roll-calls were good for learning names. What he wasn't good at was conversing. Tobias set the pot of klah upon the table where a few were sitting. It had been a little task he had willingly taken from the cook he had been listening to. But now that the task was done, he turned to go back to the kitchens, not to hide per say but to help and to listen to more stories from those born on Pern. The cook saw him coming and waved him off, giving him a purposefully nod in the direction of Will and Duncan's table. A slight tilt on one corner of his mouth was his response but he did as the cook suggested.
Coming up to the table in question where the other two Earthlings were, he cleared his throat slightly and asked, "Mind if I sit?" Would they want to know his name or did they already know it? He wasn't very good at conversing so he did not offer it until they asked. He glanced at both of their pets. He did not have one. There was no sadness there though. It was just the way things were.

With his offer to sit accepted, Duncan took a seat, watching as Adhainn slipped from his shoulder and scooted across the table, as if she was going to look at the other hatchling firelizard, but Duncan knew better. The little lassie was looking for food and he knew if she didn't find any, she'd sulk, but be fine. Her breakfast had been big and someone had mentioned not to let them get fat, so he had had to watch her food intake. Hearing a question poised to him, Duncan glanced up and shrugged. "It's . . . " how could he put it? There had been a time when he had only the barest of barest to survive, so this was a step up, but then he had had everything given back to him and he had gotten comfortable. "It's someding . . . I'm findin' myself missin' little dings dat I never really thought were all dat important. What about ye?" he asked.
With the subject turning to firelizards all of a sudden, he could only grin, arm reaching out to touch Hai's tail and bring her waddling back toward him. "Yeah. She's been real interesting taking care of." He shook his head at the mention of seeing something like them. "I mean, I've seen those little pet lizards that people would cart around, but never anything like these little guys. I'm getting a few responses more than just sleep and eat, but there aren't many and its mainly on her terms," he stated.
Another male appeared at the edge of the table. He seemed a little unsure of joining them, but Duncan could understand that. Before going up in space, he hadn't known any of the people in the ship. Afterwards, they were his only link back to Earth and he was finding himself really enjoying hanging out with every single one of them. "Sure, grab a chair, lad," he offered.
