It was quiet, the middle of the night, and Aketh was curled tightly about her clutch, her nose resting against her tail tips. Above her, Hyzeth was dozing, his rider asleep against his side, and Lin was curled up on a cot off the Sands, where she wouldn't suffer from the heat while she slept. A twitch against the pale Queen's side had her shifting slightly, and she looked down to nudge the larger Queen where it lay against her. It nudged back, and Aketh rumbled softly, then looked to its sister, which also shifted against her almost sleepily, then settled once more. Her daughters were already showing their personalities, and they weren't even Hatched yet! Aketh thought with amusement, then scanned her blue/green gaze over the others of her clutch, making sure all were okay and accounted for. She focused mainly on the smallest one, which had worried her for the longest time. It now moved the most consistently though, as if the Hatchling inside couldn't WAIT to get out, and the blue Pearl rumbled soothingly to it, encouraging the Hatchling to relax and sleep. It didn't listen to her though, twitching and shifting furiously, and she cocked her head slightly, eyeing her smallest child curiously, her twitching tail pulling it into her forepaws, where she held it gently and placed her nose against it. The egg sounded like it was chirping, and she could hear scrabbling inside, but the hatchling calmed after a bit and fell asleep as Aketh hummed to it, the soothing lullaby of a mother to her child.
After the Hatchling had gone to sleep, Aketh resettled it, curling her neck about this small one and settling to sleep once more herself, rumbling to Hyzeth, who had made a sleepy noise of question above her a moment before. The Diamond settled as she reassured him everything was alright, and both parents relaxed once more, slipping into light sleeps that were interrupted only when morning came. Lin immediately noticed the smallest egg's new placement, but didn't question her Queen about it, deciding that the Pearl must have some good reason for keeping the little one close to her heart right now. She knew that Aketh had been worried most for it, for it had taken the longest to begin moving. Yawning, the Pearlrider paced to the entrance of the Sands, looking around the waking area, thinking it odd that a series of events had begun the building of a new, and honestly needed, Weyr, though she wouldn't have chosen this beach for it. She had, in fact, been speaking with Hyra about perhaps moving the construction to the large island offshore, with its extinct volcano, which was pockmarked with good holes for the dragons and their riders, and had a large cavern in its lower depths. It had been Aketh's first choice for her Clutch, but Lin had pointed out the dangers of trying to move the eggs that FAR, and the Queen had relented and allowed herself to be convinced into bringing them into this cavern, which was working nicely for the moment.
Her head turned as Aketh made an amused noise, and she turned to find the smallest egg rolling in circles before its mother. "Such a hyper, happy baby," Lin called out lightly, and Aketh rumbled her agreement. The Queenrider was chuckling as she paced forwards. "Are you SURE they're not ready yet?"
None but this one move with enough surety, Aketh said lightly, and Lin nodded. Not time then, but soon, she thought...
