.: Theodore :.
Theo watched the little emerald as she started to focus on the girls. He thought she must have decided what she wanted, though she didn't seem to have found her rider yet. She was such a cheery little thing that it continued to be a fun experience to watch her. Idly he wondered if she might pick one of his sisters. Amelia in particular he thought might be good with such a happy little girl.
The sapphire continued to wander without the same kind of purpose that it's little sister had, but Theo found his attention pulled away from both of them when one of the other eggs shattered, an amber toned form landing on the sands in a wide limbed sprawl. Theo didn't bother to try and hide the soft laughter which came upon him as he watched the topaz get to his feet and tear into his shell as though getting revenge for his undignified enterance. Then, in a move which seemed rather cat like the dragonling sat himself down and seemed to act like this had been the plan all along as he watched the candidates from his place surrounded by the shells of his siblings.

Oh, that was the girl who'd been complaining about getting wet the day they'd had their first Lesson, bathing and oiling Iabureth. So, the little girl had found Hers. And, as far as Eternity was concerned, that was a good match for the high-maintenance girl. The Sapphires, if she remembered right, preferred to Impress boys over girls. And then--
Her train of thought was disrupted when the third egg broke, revealing a rather bemused-looking Topaz. At least his little tempter tantrum was taken out on the remainder of his egg, rather than one of his siblings that would most likely fight back. Aketh soothed him quickly, and he soon just sat down to watch. Well, perhaps that was best.
Eternity found herself thinking again about what might happen if she didn't Impress. She was good at hiding it, but there was still that hole in her heart where her elder sister had been. Sure, Siren the Lapis flit and Lucy the black puppy were helping, but... Nothing was the same... It just couldn't help heal her broken heart... She found herself sighing and quickly looked back at the eggs. No, she couldn't be thinking sad things like that here! Open, welcoming, happy thoughts, or you just might scare away your dragon. That was what she'd read anyway...

Gavin watched the eggs and waited for more of the babies to hatch. There wasn't really anything else he could do but try to avoid getting mauled if one of the babies decided to be nasty. The emerald seemed to have narrowed down her choices to the girls, slightly disappointing him, but there were still plenty of eggs left and the sapphire on the sands. Egg number three broke, revealing a handsome topaz who seemed to have quite a temper, if the way he got up and destroyed the remains of his egg was any indication. Gavin was going to be keeping a wary eye on that one, at least until he Impressed and maybe after, though that would depend on if he himself Impressed. He tried to shift his weight slightly in a combination of impatience and the heat of the sands starting to get to him.
Didn't the babies want to Impress? Why were so many of them just waiting in the their eggs? This was going to be a very long Hatching if they insisted on hatching one at a time and Impressed so slowly. It would be suicidal, but he wanted to go up to the eggs and knock on them. He wanted to know what they were doing in there. Knock, knock babies. What are you waiting for? It's Hatching time!

The Emerald had finally found Jena, who announced her name to be Tinkth, then they left the Sands, and the Sapphire seemed to nod his approval and continued moving among the boys. The Topaz was silent, remaining seated and calm, just eyeing the Candidates assessingly. While he was doing this, two eggs hatched in quick succession revealing not two, but THREE dragonets, a pretty little Amethyst with a rainbow sheen over her lilac hued body, and a pair of Emeralds who were like night and day in coloring. One was a pale almost white tone with an almost black spot on her forehead, and her twin was her opposite, almost black with an almost white spot. The three dragonets eyed one another, then fanned out, the Amethyst to the girls, and the Emeralds over to the boys, searching among them. It didn't take long before a happy warbling sounded among the boys, and the paler Emerald came to a stop at Gavin's feet, watching him adoringly. G'vin! I'm so glad I found you! Can we get some food now? Your Ashath is very hungry. Breaking out of that egg with Amyth was HARD.

Oh, Tinkth was the little Emerald's name. Well, congrats to Jena, even if, in Eternity's mind, she didn't really deserve the chance to be a Rider with how she didn't even want to get in the water to wash Iabureth. When the Sapphire walked by, he didn't give her a second glance. She didn't mind; Sapphires were supposed to Impress boys rather than girls. The Topaz stayed where he was, and then two more eggs broke open. Wait... Two eggs, but three baby dragons... Oh, those two Emeralds must've been Eggtwins! One of them walked past, and then the other one, but the pale one turned and stopped in front of Gavin, her eyes whirling rainbow. Eternity smiled.
"Congrats Gavin!" she said quickly, walking back over. She put a hand on his shoulder. "She's a beauty." ________
"Alright, anyone who's Impressed head this way!" Lenara called. So, the first to Impress had been Emeralds. "Pick a station, and make sure you feed your new Hatchling SLOWLY. You don't want to wake up in the middle of the night because your dragon ate too fast and got a stomach ache." Iabureth had curled up into a relaxed position, keeping one large eye on the Sands Candidate entrance. So, the first person to Impress was that picky girl who didn't want to get in the water. She suppressed a sigh, that one was going to be a problem. Well, hopefully with Impression the girl would get better. You didn't get very far with any of the Crafts if you were afraid of mud.

Everything happened so fast. One moment, Anka was bowing to the clutch mother and watching a cute little Emerald dance about the Sands and then a Sapphire, Topaz, Amethyst, and a pair of Emeralds from one egg Hatched. Standing among the line of girls, Anka watched most went toward the boys, but the first Emerald Impressed to the girl that had refused to do the lesson on bathing while the paler of the twin Emeralds went and Impressed to a boy. She had to contain herself at the thought of the dragonets finally Hatching and Impressing, no matter to who.

Jenesys actually was saying how Duncan felt. He wasn't sure if he was truly worthy of one of these beautiful and breath taking creatures that were crawling out of the shells of the eggs, or in the case of the Topaz smashing his to pieces. As an ex-con from Earth, he wasn't even sure why he was Standing on the Sands to begin with, but he hoped that if he did Impressed, he could prove himself worthy enough for whatever type of dragon decided to bond with him. "I said I'd dought I'd be more confident . . . Standin' here naw . . . I know I'm nae," he mentioned, glad to at least have a friend by his side on this special day.
When the first Emerald Impressed to the girl that wouldn't help with the cleaning of the dragon, Duncan wrinkled his nose, but figured the dragon must see something that they couldn't. Either way, she was now a . . . What was that word? . . . Weyrling!! Jena was a Weyrling to Emerald Tinkth, a cute name for the little Emerald. The next to Impress, but the last to hatch was a pair of twin Emeralds, something Duncan wasn't even sure was possible, but still exciting to watch. The paler Impressed to Gavin! Duncan smiled and nodded, but he felt his hands shaking and had to shake out both hands to stop himself form jumping up and down. This was truly an exciting moment and it seemed the whole line of Candidates was about ready to jump out of their skin just to learn if they would be chosen.

..:Amelia:..
Amelia had (somehow) refrained from running pell-mell from the Candidate Barracks to the Hatching Sands the moment she heard the bugled summons. She forced herself to dress slowly, fastidiously arranging her robe in attempt to make the thing look more presentable. Her sewing attempt had not been as disastrous as she'd feared, but she still wished she could have worn something a bit less haphazard. She brushed her hair and washed her face in the basin, pausing for a brief moment to consider her rippling reflection in the water. It would be, she hoped, the last time she saw the face of Amelia Alice Miller, Candidate.
There were two other faces she was eager to see, but a quick glance around proved that Serenity had already gone. Well, then, she'd see her siblings in the cavern. Trying to still the nervous, excited quiver in her limbs, she set off at a brisk pace. She slowed as she fell in line behind the rest of the Candidates streaming onto the Sands, shocked by the rush of heat. It had been growing more stifling with each passing day, and now it brought extra color to her already-flushed cheeks. Icy eyes danced eagerly as she took her place among the assembled.
Before the first hatched Emerald could snag her attention, she aimed a smile and a wink at her brother and sister. And then she saw the eggs had begun to hatch, and she promptly forgot everything else. In fact, she was so enraptured that she didn't realize she'd been holding her breath until she swayed slightly on her feet. Abashed and desperately hoping no one noticed, Amelia forced herself to exhale slowly, closing her eyes long enough to even out her breathing.
She opened them just in time to see one of the eggs spill forth its contents--twin Emeralds? She grinned. She'd never heard of that, but hey, being a twin was quite excellent, in her biased opinion. She flashed another grin at Teddy, but her attention didn't stray for long, and she watched as one of the pair found a lifemate. She couldn't help but watch as the new Weyrlings removed themselves to feed their dragons, but of course, the frenetic activity of the rest of the clutch tugged her in again.
..:Navelon:..
"I said stay here, Shee!" Navelon snapped, exasperated. The little pearl was whizzing to and fro about his head, sounding off. One moment, she thrummed with joy at the prospect of the Hatching, and the next, she berated the Candidate for shooing her off of his shoulder. He'd been trying to explain to the stubborn fire lizard that she was not allowed to accompany him to the Hatching. Unfortunately, she absolutely refused to remain tamely behind with Merc. When even her attempts to nuzzle his cheek were brushed firmly aside, she gave a shrill cry and disappeared between.
Great. Just when he was supposed to be calm and open and assured, Navelon's emotions were in a tumultuous knot. He sighed, gave the teal sea serpent curled on his pillow a pat, and left the now-deserted barracks. Arguing with Shee had made him late, which frazzled him even more. The young man walked slowly, trying to clear his mind. He would not, could not fail this time. He squeezed his eyes shut, willing away the turbulent emotions.
By the time he arrived, a couple of Impressions had already been made. His heart skipped a beat. What if he'd missed his dragon, being late? Fighting panic, he executed a quick bow to the clutchparents and jogged to his place amongst the other white-clad hopefuls.

The Hatching? Will blinked as Glory chirped, the little pearl flitter was oozing excitement. Hatching? But...what....now? He was not expecting the voice that sounded in his mind or the sense of excitement the words sent through him. He raced back to the barracks, pulled off his tunic and pants and pulled his rode over his head. It had been a strange few weeks, or seven days as they called them here. But now the eggs were hatching, and he really was not sure what to expect. Sure they had been told what would happen, they had all had dragons speak to them, but to actually witness a hatching, to be paired to a dragon from now till...well...forever, it seemed like a fairytale.
Glory flew over his head, her voice humming, raising with the others as they welcomed the new hatchlings to the Weyr. He came to a halt at the entrance feeling he needed to restrain his excitement and walk in like a responsible candidate. But he was really too excited, he wanted to run and jump, to shout that he was here and his dragon could now hatch. But he didnt, he moved slowly, his gaze moving around the vast hatching cavern. He held his excitement inside taking his place with the others.
His eyes were wide as he saw the first of the hatchlings, how amazing it must be to have impressed already. He shifted the weight from one foot to the other, the hot sands quickly heated his sandals, then his feet, but he didnt care. He was here at a hatching on a world that was just...well..life for William had certainly changed, and he was sure it was for the better. All he needed now was a dragon and he was sure life would be perfect.

The Amethyst had stopped and was now seated on her pretty rump, just staring at the girls, her look so CONFUSED that it was adorably sad. Had she gone the wrong way? Turning her head, she considered, then rose and turned in a neat circle, proceeding back to the boys and starting to sniff among them as well. No. No. No. She was growing increasingly frustrated, and she finally turned and padded back to the eggs, curling up against the smaller Queen egg and just huddling there. She looked so pitiful that several Candidates nearly forgot their training in attempts to help her. She KNEW her's was HERE. But WHERE?
While the Amethyst was considering her predicament, the egg against which she huddled seemed to quiver more firmly, as if reacting to her sister's emotions, then leaned into her, almost seeming to attempt to comfort her. At the same time, the larger Queen also reacted, leaning into the Amethyst as well. Thus reassured she had her sisters' support, the tiny thing rose to her feet, nuzzling both eggs, then returning more confidently to the Candidates, moving among them. Delicate sniffing of hands and ticklish feet ensued, leaving several Candidates giggling at the sensation, then she abruptly halted, just as the Topaz rose to HIS feet and strode to the boys as well.
J'sys! Pifth thought I'd lost you!
W'liam. Hisarth hungers.
The dual Impression was followed by yet another as the Sapphire halted a final time among the boys, cocking his head. Oh. There you are L'vis. Mewth was wondering where you'd got to.
Those three Impressions tiggered a response among the three largest eggs, and as one, the two Queens shattered, leaving their occupants standing regally in the remains of their shells. The larger one was a rich black beauty with a dazzling iridescent sheen. Her smaller sister was beautiful in her own right, a pale, sandy tone, like a well toned river pearl. The two Queens looked at one another, then to the Candidates, remaining where they stood for the moment.

Tobias
Aura had seen Tobias come in, and gave him a slight flick of her fingers in acknowledgement of his nod to her, before focusing her attention on the dragons once more.

The Amethyst didn't look very happy... The other eggs started reacting now, and then, suddenly, the Amethyst stilled. The Topaz stood and walked over to a boy. Then the Sapphire did the same.
And then, the two Queens broke open. Eternity gasped softly, caught by the captivating beauty of the black Pearl. Then, the smaller one took her breath away. They were both beautiful, black and sandy-white, Yin and Yang almost... But their personalities were probably much more similar to the little ones... Eternity figured that one of the Queens would Impress Kaira; she was the HAD after all. She loved the colors of those two Queens, but in her heart she knew the possibility of one of them Impressing to her was incredibly low.
Suddenly, she felt a distance between herself and the rest of the Candidates. The Pern-born Candidates couldn't understand... But the ones that were on the ship, all those months ago... Most of them didn't understand either. She'd lost everything... Tobi had both of his sisters still, but Eternity knew that she was alone. Her twin sisters were still on Earth, and her Serenity was gone forever. She sighed and took a few steps back, retreating behind a few of the other Candidates. There were so many Candidates, and fifteen eggs, sixteen Hatchlings. There were more than thirty Candidates, Weyrling hopefuls... The chance of Impression was less than fifty percent. There was never a hundred percent chance of Impressing, there was never a guarantee that a Hatchling in a Clutch was going to be the one for you... And she found the words of an old book running through her mind.
But if the one that is for me should happen to fall in love with only me, then I will have to part with the one that is for me and only me. Still, I would like to meet the one that is for me and only me. This is what I think as I walk through the town with no people.

Jenesys took a deep breath and nodded at Duncan's words...it was like they were reading each other's minds. Though it could also be that EVERYONE was feeling the exact same way. Especially those who'd come from Earth and had no idea how to act to this environment or situation. He was never going to be worthy of such a creature...and the perfect example of why was when the gorgeous little Amethyst passed him by. He wanted to reached out to here, she seemed so lost and...and confused...just like he felt a great deal of the time as he got used to this new life. He didn't even noticed the other Impressions...not really as she moved to curl up amongst the eggs.
Jenesys sighed and turned his attention back to Duncan. "I'm sure it'll be ok...this is just the first time we're Standing and the Queen may have more eggs in the future, even if we don't Impress now we...we..."
His voice stopped when he heard the voice. Like the other dragons it was in his mind but this one was...was so light, gentle, and worried. Turning his eyes to in front of him he saw the same gorgeous Amethyst that had passed over him once right in front of him.
"Lost...lost no no..." he whispered as he reached out for her. Pifth eagerly leapt into him, toppling the boy to the ground and curl into him, crooning happily. I thought I'd lose you. You feel as if you want to leave.
Jenesys swallowed before nodding. "I...I did...but I...not when I have you..." he whispered softly. "I don't have to go anywhere."
No, you don't. Now we may need to get up, you're all sandy and your clothes are all over the place, Pifth giggled...only then did Jenesys squeak and pull his robes back down where they'd flown up nearly around his waist.

.: Serenity :.
Sen watched the others as the dragons began to move in amongst them. The little emerald worried her for a moment, until she started calling out a name. Looking about, Serenity couldn't spot where Jena was until the emerald had found her, but the moment they had, Serenity turned her attention back to the clutch. Though she did have a moment where she wondered how Jena was going to cope with having a hatchling dragon, given the way she had reacted to having to bath Aquamarine Iabureth during their candidate lessons. Hopefully having it be the happiness and wellbeing of her own dragon would be the push she needed.
It seemed to be only moments after Tinkth had found her rider that two more eggs shattered and released new dragons into the world. Serenity had to stop and count them twice to be sure she believed her own eyes when three dragons came from two eggs. The emerald appeared to be twins, adorable opposites, with one as dark as night but for a patch of white-green on her face and the other light as day with a patch of black-green. The other was a pretty amethyst, with the rainbow sheen which some seemed to have. It was an interesting phenomenon, the fact that the sheen was not a uniform part of amethyst colouring. Some had the rainbow shine and others did not and in those who did possesses it, the strength of the shimmering overlay varied between each dragon. Truly it was a marvelous thing, how different each dragon was. The books had in some ways made dragons out to all be very similar, and it was fascinating how much variety there could be in the real thing.
The lighter green found her rider in one of the boys, and then the amethyst picked another boy. The topaz came charging into the crowd and stopped before another candidate. Then the sapphire, who had been wandering for some time now, found the one he wanted.
As if those impressions had been some kind of signal, the three largest eggs began to move with more urgency, the two queen eggs quickly breaking away to reveal a pair of queens. Like the twins earlier, these two queens were so different that, had she not known better, Serenity would have thought them completely different dragon hues. One was a deep black, her pearlecent sheen a dazzling display of colour against that ebony hide. The other was lighter, a sandy tone, with her shine not as noticeable against her paler hide, but still there. They were beautiful and for the time being they held Serenity's complete focus.

Tobias saw the slight flicking of Aura's fingers to him. He wished she could have been on the sands where she belonged but who was he to argue with a healer. He noticed her not so thrilled stance and sympathized with her. But he had to put his attention upon the hatching now. Some hatchlings could be prone to tripping or desperate aggression in their pursuit to find their mind-match. He had paid attention, he knew it was possible and he also knew he best be alert just in case.
Seeing the twin dragons hatch was a treat. Something told him that didn't happen all the time. Seeing the many different shades, builds and sizes of the hatchlings that had come out already intrigued him. The corner of his mouth tilted up in a quiet smile as he stood there rather stoically. The two queen eggs whom he had bowed to but not touched during their time with the eggs before were hatching now. He watched them carefully and was pleased to see them looking healthy and well. Turning his attention to the candidates near him he got to witness one of the impressions as it happened. The rainbow eyes and the look upon the candidates face as the match, the impression, was made that slight smile upon his face grow a bit. He was happy for them.
Wondering what might be hatching next and if one of them would find him worth anything, he stood shifted his hot feet and kept alert.

..:Amelia:..
If anyone was crazy enough to pay attention to Amelia rather than the captivating dragonets, he or she might notice the woman’s fingers drumming restlessly on her upper arm. That small, nervous movement didn’t prove enough to ease her tension, so she began idly wringing her hands.
The plight of the little amethyst intensified her fiddling. She longed to step forward and go toward the lost-looking hatchling; only the thought of the dragonriders’ ire kept her rooted in place. Well, that and the fact that she felt unsteady on her feet at the moment. She shifted uncomfortably, looking around to see if someone was going to reach out to the pitiful creature.
Before they could, though, the amethyst seemed to find her feet. Amelia breathed a sigh—part relief, part disappointment—as she headed toward the boys, as did the next two dragons to Impress. She fidgeted more, craning to see the new-hatched beings as they were led off the sands.
It struck her suddenly how fiercely she wanted to be among that number. She had hoped for it since they crash-landed her, of course, been over the moon at the prospect of standing. But now, here among the excited throng gathered for the occasion, she realized how very much she yearned for the much-lauded bond between rider and dragon. It was somewhat unsettling, for someone who was used to being able to get where she wanted to go by sheer stubborn willpower. That wouldn’t serve her here, to her frustration.
Her pang of longing was disrupted by the sudden arrival of the two queens. She blinked. Somehow, she’d anticipated more fanfare. While the hatchlings seem content to be still and survey their surroundings, she took the chance to examine them critically, marveling and the contrasting sheen of their hides. They seemed to be examining the Candidates in their own right, as thoughtful as the myriad spectators who were now drinking in their arrival.
Amelia tensed, her breath catching once again.
..:Navelon:..
Calm. Be calm. Navelon repeated the firm litany over and over again inside his head, trying to ignore the sharp lance of disappointment each time he saw an egg hatch and its occupant pass right by. The last sapphire to Impress meandered close enough to Nav that he could’ve reached out and touched the dragon, but of course, he dare not do that. The topaz met his hopeful gaze for the merest instant, but there was no hesitation as the stately creature went directly to another.
He dutifully accorded the three new Weyrlings congratulatory nods, and he was pleased to note that he even managed some semblance of a smile. It was difficult, though, to keep his shoulders from slumping. There’s still hope, he reminded himself. He was so distracted by repeating his mantra that he didn’t even chuckle at Jenesys’ wardrobe malfunction, though some of the spectators did (and Navelon himself under ordinary circumstances probably would’ve had a hearty laugh).
His worry intensified, but even the shadow of doubt that clung to him could not fully eclipse his excitement. He was spared a few moments of anxiety by the arrival of the pair of queens. They certainly wouldn’t choose him, and so there could be no letdown when they breezed on past. He watched them surveying the girls and wondered who among them would be chosen. He’d heard the bets being whispered around the Weyr, of course, but even the most knowledgeable of the Weyrfolk were usually wrong when it came to Impression. It simply was not understood what drew a dragon to his rider, regardless of what any Candidate Master may claim.
Whatever that appealing trait was, Navelon was fervently hoping that he possessed it as he gazed hard at the queens and the remainder of the clutch, willing one of the unborn dragons to want him as fervently as he wanted them.

The two Queens were silently eyeing the Candidates before them, and they kept glancing at one another, almost as if communicating wordlessly with one another. The black Pearl seemed almost to nod, then shifted slightly, her sister moving to seat herself near their mother for the moment. Aketh cocked her head at her smaller daughter, then looked up as a shrill sound echoed through the Cavern, high and rage filled. The source wasn't immediately apparent, and both young Queens, as well as their mother, tensed, the black Pearl's head swiveling around, and her body swiftly following suit.
Out from the midst of the eggs, from the general direction of the third largest egg, came a snow white form, darting so fast it was difficult to tell what it was exactly. The black Pearl hissed as it headed unerringly for her, but before she could get out of the way, she was bowled over by the rushing form. She screamed in pain, the sound abruptly dying into a sickening bubbling sound, and everything seemed to freeze. That moment of stillness revealed her attacker to be a large Diamond, sleek and highly aggressive, tearing out her throat. Before she gave her last, she vanished, claws digging into her brother and dragging him with her into the depths of Between.
Shock stilled the entirety of the Sands, and as the keening rang out, mourning the loss of both the beautiful Pearl and what SHOULD have been a loyal King, the tawny Pearl suddenly bolted, heading straight for the Stands...
----------------------
Kaira had been watching the whole affair with some detachment, really. She didn't know why, but she couldn't seem to get herself excited over this anymore. Maybe she was just too old or something, she thought, but she just... Didn't care. She heard the young ones, knew where they were going by their words, and exulted when one of her students was chosen, but for herself, she just didn't care one way or the other. However, as the black Pearl was murdered by her brother, and the tawny one bolted for the Stands, she moved without thought, pushing aside her Candidate Training to protect those students still too injured to Stand. The result of this foolishness was that she was barreled into by the little Queen, who then got caught in her robe and proceeded to tear her leg to shreds before managing to get free.
--------------------
The little Queen then continued her frenzied, terrified rush into the Stands, and vanished behind a skirt toned in blue and brown, shivering fiercely as she pressed firmly to the legs of her chosen Rider. Aura! Please, don't let him get me... Don't let Demonth take your Quinith as he did Sirieth!
Aura blinked, then looked down at the little creature, stunned beyond belief. "Wh-?" She shook her head fiercely, taking note of the Healers rushing to Kaira, who lay bleeding profusely from her mangled leg, and kneeled beside the Pearl. "Hush, Quinith. I won't let Demonth get you. He's gone now. Sirieth took her revenge," she said gently, stroking the still shivering Pearl soothingly, trying to block out Kaira's pained gasps as she was tended right there on the Sands, as she'd made it clear she refused to leave them...
