Fire-Lizards- The ancestors of the dragons, these tiny creatures are, at their largest, no longer than an average man's forearm. They come in the same hues as the dragons, and their personalities are generally the same color-wise as well. They can be Impressed by feeding them at Hatching, and it is possible to have multiples of them, rather than just 1 like dragons or whers. They do not /Between/ when their master or mistress dies, but rather go wild.
Canines- Similar to Earth's dogs, they are loyal, hardworking creatures who can come in any patterning that a dog could. Most often used for herding or for running machinery, they are bred only for their capacity for work, not for their looks.
Felines- Much like Earth cats, Felines are larger, sturdier. They still have the same type of personality traits though. Trained and bred to be hunters, they are experts at killing small rodents and tunnel snakes.
Runners- The equivalent of horses on Earth, they are bred for the same kind of work, be it running a race or pulling a loaded cart or wagon.
Herdbeasts- Herdbeasts appear to be the equivalent of sheep or cattle on Earth, but have been altered to consume the boron rich vegetation of Pern. They are, for the most part, more slender and smaller, but not by much.
Wherries- A native of Pern, these foul fowl are carnivorous, and dangerous when wild. They have been domesticated though, and have the same odd, six limbed structure as most other native beasts on Pern. Supposedly, they are like turkey or chicken.
Tunnel Snakes- Nasty creatures, possessing six limbs and a dangerous disposition. Tunnel Snakes can get quite large if left alone, and they are responsible for the losses of fowl and fire-lizard eggs. Their Earth equivalent would be snakes or lizards.
Watch-Whers- An experiment gone wrong-supposedly- Watch Whers are ugly, nocturnal versions of the dragons and fire-lizards. In size, they are somewhere in the middle, with the Pearl Queens easily matching a large runner for size and strength. They come in the same hues as the dragons and flits, and are exceedingly loyal to whoever their Handler is. Dangerous when wild, if a Hatching is not bonded it is generally culled for safety reasons. Watch-Whers can be 'passed down' in a family if the blood remains strong, and it is not unusual for one of these beasts to live several generations.
Sea Serpents- A new, aquatic species of serpent. This serpent possesses no wings, has a long, slender body and can, at a distance, be mistaken for an eel or sea snake. These are, however, much larger, and thicker, more muscular. They possess only four legs, with webbed toes, and males have a distinctive crest that can be folded down into a slot along their spine for more speed. Females do not possess this crest. This creature is a soft gray tone, with distinctive striping patterns along its sides, and the HUE of these stripes seems to coincide with their place in the school. Those of a golden tone are the highest ranked female, while those of rich red are the highest male. Four other hues, silver, blue, white and teal, complete the group, with the whites ranked next, then blue, silver and teal. The three lower hues seem to come in either gender, while the whites are always male.

Uncolored Male Example
(Examples made by Red)
Gold:
Gender- Female
Rank- Queen
Coloration- Any shade of gold, from pale white golds to dark near bronze tones
Personality- Golds tend towards vanity and self-centeredness, with a healthy does of "Look at me" thrown in. They are the leaders of a school, and they know their worth as breeders, laying as many as 10 eggs.
Red:
Gender- Male
Rank- High male
Coloration- Any tones of red
Personality- Fiery and arrogant, Reds are also very good with Hatchlings, and have been known to form bonds with young ones well into their first Turn of life. They are generally the mates to Golds.
White:
Gender- Male
Rank- Middle
Coloration- Snow white or just off-white
Personality- Whites are silly, somewhat chaotic creatures, with a bent towards causing mischief. Their favorite thing is to make things 'disappear' and send their masters on a wild goose chase with little hints, while all along it's right under their bodies. Skillful hunters, they are also generally the leader of a school's hunting 'packs'
Blue:
Gender- Either
Rank- Low
Coloration- All shades of Blue
Personality- Calm and steady, Blue Serpents are the mediators for their race, more than willing to stand between two parties and help them work things out. Blue females lay once out of every five swims or so, and can clutch up 3 eggs.
Silver:
Gender- Either
Rank- Low
Coloration- Shades of silver, from almost white to dark platinum
Personality- The most common hue in any school, they are playful, goofy and adore being with others, regardless of species. They also tend towards hunting larger prey than they are, using the pack mentality to bring it down. Stubborn, they will not give up until they triumph. Silver females do not clutch, and seem to be sterile from birth.
Teal:
Gender- Either
Rank- Lowest
Coloration- Shades range from pale aquas to dark, near black tones
Personality- Teals are the smallest, as well as the lowest ranked, in any school. In complete contrast to this though, they are heavily prized by their schools for their intelligence, and there have been times when a Gold has chosen to mate with a Teal male rather than a Red or White due to that. Teal females always clutch, regardless, and can lay up to 5 eggs.
