Now that she'd recovered from her concussion, and the gash on her leg was healing, she was getting a bit of cabin fever stuck in the Weyr all day. She'd gotten permission to go to the beach, as long as a healer's flit came with her. She was still getting used to these things, but she hadn't laughed once since the crash... Since the day her sister had died. She did occasionally hum a song from Earth, and the healers would ask her what it was. Once in a while she'd sing a few bars, but they didn't get that very often. Usually only when she thought she was alone.
This was one of those times. She wasn't entirely sure if she liked this new world. There wasn't anything here... Well, it was different, and if she'd asked they probably would've given her a swimsuit, the same way she'd gotten new outfits to replace the stuff she'd lost in the explosion. It wasn't quite the same as what she was used to wearing, but it was pretty good.
She stopped walking, the long skirt swirling around her ankles in the ocean breeze. The shoes were nicer, to be honest. Sandals were much more preferable over sneakers in this weather. She closed her eyes as her hair was blown back, and she almost felt a smile on her face. It would take her a long time to get past her sister's death, she knew that much. But she might as well take advantage of this new place...
The little black creature on her shoulder chirped at her. "I know, I know. But they said I just had to be back by sunset, and I've still got a few hours," she reminded the creature. It chirped again. "Alright, alright. I'll be careful." She rolled her eyes and started walking again, gazing out at the water. She stopped and turned, looking out at the horizon. She sighed quietly and opened her mouth, singing for the first time since the crash.
It starts with a whisper, a sound on the breeze,
Dancing on moonbeams, shaking the trees.
From one single note to a chorus at dawn.
It grows like a hope from the moment it's born.
Flying over rainbows
On the promise of tomorrow
Let the truth save the day
And you'll never lose your way.
She kept singing, her voice soft the whole time, eyes closed, hands behind her back as the wind blew around her.
((Let Your Heart Sing))
