Name: Aura Telgar
Age: 16
Birthday: Sept 11
Gender: Female
Rank: QueenWeyrling
Job: Kitchen Crew
Special: None
Quote: "Nailed It."
Appearance: At five foot two, Aura is not a tall woman, but she is sleek, and well muscled from fighting off unwanted advances. Her hair is a lustrous black, falling to her hips in shining waves, and is paired with piercing emerald green eyes flecked with just enough gold to give them a feral look in the right light. She has many scars on her hands and arms from the crash, and three long, jagged scars on her back from that same thing. Her clothing was all lost in the explosion of the Aries, so now her only possessions are loose skirts and blouses that were given to her by the people of Pern, in shades of brown and tan.
Personality: Stubborn as all get out, and strong willed to boot, Aura is hard to deter once she gets her mind on something. Her eyes are shadowed, but she has a ready smile for anyone she feels deserves it. Her upbringing has made her wary of men, but at the same time, once one has proven himself to her, she will not forget it. She is highly loyal to those who earn it, but if her loyalty is betrayed, it cannot be re-earned. Aura has a deep-rooted survival instinct that has gotten her this far, and was the push she needed to get free of her roots and make her way to the Space Camp. She is now relishing- if painfully -in her freedom.
She has now become even more thrilled with her recent Impression to her Quinith, though she also knows it will take work to get Quinith past her fear of her clutchmates. She is determined though, and knows that they must if they are to effectively lead the new Weyr.
History: Aura was born in New York as the only daughter to a household that already had 6 boys. This was only because her mother had been forced to abort any girls before her, due to her husband being the kind of man who prized boys over girls. The only reason Aura was 'allowed to live' was because her mother had come down with a sickness that made it impossible for her to do anything anymore and her husband and sons refused to stoop to doing 'women's work.' She was forced to do all of the cooking, cleaning, laundry and such, given minimal food and water and slept in a tiny little bedroom at the back of the house. She was ALLOWED to get a job at the age of fifteen to keep the mens' licentious habits paid for, and she began hoarding small amounts of what she made from each paycheck, not enough to be noticed, but enough to build up. In the course of a year, she made enough to pay her way into Space Camp, as well as enough to get the plane ticket and cab fare to get her there. She even had enough left over she could have paid for a hotel room for a bit while she sought out a new job.
But that wasn't to matter. She was on the last shuttle to get to the Aries, and so was one of the last to truly know what was going on, as she was getting settled in her cabin when the gravitational pull began...
"What the?"
She ran from her room and towards the front, only to be stopped by another student racing the other direction screaming about a black hole. That wasn't possible... Was it? She frowned and continued forwards, ignoring the screaming, panicked faces of her fellows until she reached the bridge. She didn't see anything, for at that moment, darkness engulfed the Aries, she she reflexively closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, all she could see was flames. She heard screaming, small voices, and she darted out from the corner she'd ended up in and went searching for the sources. She found them huddled together, three terrified children, and was about to urge them to get up when the world suddenly tilted violently. They screamed again, and Aura struggled back to her feet, in time to see the world beginning to fall on them. "NO!" She lunged forwards, covering the three littles, and barely suppressed her own scream as fire lanced through her back in three separate places. She held firm though, refusing to let the debris fall on these innocents, even as her world began to swim and be edged with red.
"We're over here!" one of the littles cried abruptly, and she realized she could hear voices calling for them. They continued calling, and Aura felt the debris lifted away from her. A sharp gasp was emitted as the weight was suddenly gone, and the pain and relief combined to cause her to pass out, unknowing what had occurred...
Aura had gone from being unconscious and nearly dead to being up and around, though she had been limited from Standing for any Hatchings until her back had healed entirely, due to the possible dangers it could still pose to her health. That didn't matter in the end though, for Quinith didn't seem to even notice her rider was injured when she came running and hid behind her, trembling like a leaf after seeing her Pearl sister murdered by their Diamond brother. Aura is trying to adjust to her new place on this world, stunned at going from New York runaway to Queenrider with just one decision, one day...
