(A few weeks before the Clutch made itself known to be alive)
Eternity had borrowed some scrolls from the Weyr's library. Reading and immersing herself was her way of coping, of pushing away the fact that her sister was gone. She was trying to forget about it, and for the most part she could push it from her mind.
At the moment, she was sitting on her bed, reading about the different colors of dragons and the personality quirks each one had. Her favorite ones so far, by color alone, were the Quartz, Pearl, and Diamond, though the Aquamarine were pretty too. She wanted to learn more about the Lapis, but there just wasn't much detail on such a rare color. She was so focused on the scroll that she didn't notice the tiny egg in the basket of sand start to rock. Luck, the creature now getting pretty big, looked up and started growling softly. That got Eternity's attention. She made a motion with her hand to quiet the puppy, but then she saw the movements of the egg. She blinked, then realized what was happening. She turned over on her stomach to watch the egg. It shook and rattled, tiny chirping sounds coming from inside the tiny shell. A shard broke off, no bigger than a buttonhole, but it made the chirping that much louder.
Eternity's face broke out into a smile as the next shard fell away, this one bigger. Then a tiny creature tumbled out, causing the egg to collapse in on itself. In the sand was a tiny dark blue creature, her hide laced with little gold-colored threads. For it was certainly female, and quite hungry too. Eternity picked up the little creature and set it on her shoulder. "Siren, that's what I'll call you," she said to the little Lapis. Siren chirped and nudged the girl, happy to have a name now, but would be even happier to be fed. Eternity laughed. Oh, now she really felt like she belonged in this world. But she also had two little beings to look after. She grabbed Lucy's leash and started heading toward the kitchens. Time for them both to get fed.
