Name: Kyravu
Age: Twenty One
Gender: Male
Rank: Candidate; Journeyman Healer
Appearance: Not the tallest man, but definitely not the shortest at 6ft, Kyravu quite often towers above many of the other candidates at the Weyr. While some might think his height puts him at a disadvantage during hatching time (all the angry little dragons will surely go for the biggest, more noticeable candidates?) he wouldn't have it any other way. Of a slim build, and being dangerously close to underweight at 162lbs, Kyravu is extremely light on his feet. Fast when running, and quiet when navigating the beds of sleeping patients, Kyravu's lack of bulk makes him one of the first choices in the intensive care areas of Healing. He has some strength to him - but lifting a grown man on his own would prove difficult, and would probably do himself an injury.
Kyravu is quite attractive, in a strange way. His skin his quite pale, and his hair is kept long, coming just to the tops of his shoulders. He wears a braid on the left side of his hair, threaded with beads and feathers. His face is frames by jagged layers and a soft, feathered fringe. His hair colour is a light brown, with almost reddish highlights. His eyes are a pale hazelnut colour, and always seem to have a gentle, sympathetic look to them. His face is quite narrow, with a pointed chin and high cheekbones. It is also lined with the crinkles of a concerned frown, the early onset of ageing brought around by the stresses of being a Healer. He blushes easily, and burns even more so in the sunlight. Light freckles cover his nose and cheeks, matched by a crooked grin that runs through his family quite strongly. His general appearance is well cared for and clean, his clothes always straight and perhaps a little finer than they need to be for day to day life. In the way of scars he has few, though his hands are dotted with faint lines where he used to be not so steady with a needle.
Overall, Kyravu is quite a graceful young man. Every step he takes is deliberate, no energy wasted. He moves with all the care and thought that he puts into his work, and is surprisingly difficult to overbalance.
Personality: Kyravu will come across to most as a gentle soul, perhaps easily offended or upset by the harsh words of others. Gentle though he is, Kyravu has skin of stone when confronted, and can be extremely stern to those who would endeavour to see him distraught. He abhors those who would willingly cause harm to anything, human or not, though physical means. He will rarely raise his voice, and will always try and calm a stressful situation with words. However, he is well aware that not all things can be solved with kind words or a calm mediator, and will stand up for those he feels need protecting using any means necessary. He views himself as a keeper of peace, although perhaps it is due to the internal struggle within himself that he sees himself this way.
While Kyravu is kind and almost motherly in his dealings with people and children, and while on the surface he seems to be a man incapable of corruption, Kyravu knows that this side of him is little more than a farce. He is constantly struggling with the part of himself that would lead a revolt just so he could have power. He would rebel against all that is known, all that is good and gentle, if given the opportunity. While the softer, kinder side of himself is currently strong enough to resist the urges, the right catalyst could send him over the edge to rebellion. That is not to say Kyravu would not be a good leader. He could be great, no matter which way he gains power, he would always be fair and gentle to those who are loyal to him. Trust is something that is easily broken, however, and once you have betrayed Kyravu, it is unlikely you will ever get that trust back.
Romantically inexperienced, Kyravu is actually quite naive when it comes to expressing interest in someone, or someone expressing interest in himself. For the duration of his life he has always set himself goals, thrown himself fully into his work and never really stopped to consider what else may be lurking around the corner. He knows he wants children some day, but getting there...getting there is a whole new realm of unexplored and unplanned experiences.
Kyravu is actually a little bit vain when it comes to his appearance, though he won't admit it. He keeps himself looking the best he can in any situation, and will always be uncomfortable when covered with any kind of dirt. The sooner he can get clean again, the happier he will be. He also arrogantly believes he is one of the better healers at the Weyr. Though this is a matter of opinion, it is clearly a sign of a whole other side to Kyravu. On bad days he can be quite cruel, sneering and making sarcastic comments. But get in the way of those he cares for, and those he is loyal to, and he will be a fierce person indeed. For all his calm and soothing front, with his darker side comes an affinity for using force to get what he wants.
History: Kyravu is Pern-born, raised by a wealthy merchant and his wife. While Kyravu's real parents are not known, Kyravu has never shown an interest in finding them. He considers Kyrom and Myavu to be his parents for the simple fact they gave him his name. For the first five turns of his life, his mother taught him gentleness and kindness. When she fell pregnant with his sister, Myom, his father took over the teaching. Kyrom meant well, when he taught his son to be ruthless and always strive for the top, but he caused a conflict within Kyravu that would torment him for many turns. A merchant's son who should be gentle...and fleece people for all their marks? It was something Kyravu could not let happen, he would not let himself become the tyrant merchant that cost people their homes and families.
So at the age of 10 he pursued a different path. He went into being a Healer, his sister Myom becoming the Merchant's heir just as she should rightfully be. He threw himself with full force into his studies, and at the age of 14, he met Iriani. Iriani was a female healer, bright, intelligent...and so hopelessly attracted to Kyravu, even at that young age. Kyravu was too absorbed in learning that he never noticed, and for five long turns, Iriani pursued him, until finally...she gave up. At nineteen turns, both he and Iriani graduated, and Iriani went on to marry a man who was twenty turns her senior. It was an unhappy marriage, but Iriani was doted on when the man remembered his wife among his mistresses.
It was Iriani who pushed Kyravu to Sea Cliffs Weyr, as a healer and a candidate, and barely a sevenday passed since that long but final discussion that he was officially Searched by a dragonrider.
And so Kyravu left his old life behind, and started a new one at the Weyr. His parents, sister and friend are a long distant memory now, and as the clutch on the Sands begins to finally show some signs of life, Kyravu finds himself fighting with the darker side of himself that has been suppressed for most of his healer life.
Pets: If they have any, please include the name, gender, species, color and a basic physical description at the very least.
For Candidates:
What Color Would They Prefer to Impress?: Ask him directly, and he might say Quartz, though he secretly has his eye on Onyx or Topaz...maybe even a Queen if she deigns to look towards the males.
Why?: To Kyravu, appearance is everything. He likes to say Quartz because a smaller dragon is what is expected of him - never be picky or attracted to rank. But Kyravu craves power and responsibility, even if he is very good at hiding it.
What Color Would YOU Prefer They Impress?: I don't mind, it's all about the personality. If you find something that really suits Kyravu, then go for it! I really don't mind.
Why?: As I said before - I prefer to have a matching personality than a specific colour. High rank to low rank - Kyravu can do just as well on anything, with a bit of determination. Cross Impression is absolutely fine with me, as are sickly dragons, or dragons who will go through life dragging him along with them.
Mauling Allowed?: Mauling is always allowed on my characters. Death or severe injury is always fun to play out, but I would prefer his limbs left intact if he is going to survive.
