Name: Amelia Alice Miller
Nicknames: Alice, Ally (family only)
Family: Mother: Miranda Miller (nee Keyes) - Meteorologist
Father: Jason Miller - Mechanic
Siblings: Theodore Miller (twin brother) & Serenity Miller (younger sister)
Age: 20 (born October 1995)
Gender: Female
Rank: Candidate
Appearance: Like her twin, Amelia (who went by Alice back on Earth), is tall and broad-shouldered for a woman. She isn’t one of those girls who is ashamed of her height, either—she doesn’t slouch or shuffle to keep men from feeling intimidated. She owns every one of her inches, and her posture is excellent.
Her face, like Theodore’s, is quick and expressive. She often has one eyebrow quirked in either skepticism or curiosity. Like most of her family, her eyes are pale blue. Her hair is fine and strawberry blonde, typically cropped short because she has no interest in fooling with long, complicated locks. Due to the slight paleness of her skin, she sports a spattering of freckles on her nose and cheeks when frequently exposed to sun, but most burns fade quickly into a light tan.
Alice, unlike her younger sister Serenity, has no patience for fashion and frippery. She dresses for comfort in jeans and t-shirts (some of which she steals from Theo) or flannels. More often than not, she has an old hoodie pulled on over whatever she’s wearing. The fabric is adorned with various stains and faded spots, and she’s worn holes for her thumbs in the sleeves. She absolutely loathes wearing shoes, so when she’s forced don them, it’s sandals all the way.
Personality: Amelia’s mulish streak makes her blend right in with the rest of the Millers. She’s as stubborn as they come and flatly refuses to admit she’s wrong except in the face of blatant proof (and even then, it’s tough, sometimes). Although she and Theo are normally in accord on most subjects, the clash of their infrequent differing opinions has led to some spectacular rows in the past. Perhaps due in part to her tenacity, Alice is rarely afraid to speak her mind—but she’ll only do so when she feels she has considered all aspects of a situation diligently. Once she feels like she’s gathered enough knowledge, she forms very strong opinions, and it’s impossible to sway her without a multitude of new information.
She respects honesty and expertise very highly. There are few things that impress her more than someone who has considerable knowledge using that knowledge in a just and fair manner to help other people. That deeply-rooted sense of integrity is part of what drove her to study science. Of course, the other driving factor was her never-satisfied curiosity. Amelia wants to know everything about everything, particularly the things that breathe. However, she shares some of her younger sister’s interest in other languages and cultures.
Unfortunately, Alice is quite impatient. Waiting without some sort of puzzle or distraction to occupy her ever-seeking mind is almost impossible for this young woman. She’s never simply idle. Sometimes, her multitude of personal projects overwhelm her, leaving her frazzled and on edge. She has a notorious temper when she’s highly-stressed, as either of her siblings will vehemently attest. She does, at least, have the grace to apologize for her unnecessary outbursts later on.
History: Amelia was always a bright child, succeeding almost effortlessly at everything she attempted academically. Like her siblings, she is fluent in both English and Italian, and she’s mastered the basics of English Sign Language and French. Her primary focus in school, though, was science. She chose to study Genetics in University.
Her childhood was fairly typical. She grew up in a family where hard work and intelligence were equally lauded, close to both parents and siblings. She is, however, especially close to her twin brother, Theodore. Though she’s not the best at reading subtle mood shifts, but Teddy is an open book to her. Any time she’s having a crisis that she feels she can’t handle alone, it’s Theo she turns to. Though she’s rarely vocally expressive of her deep affection for him, she regards him as highly as anyone in the world. Her affection toward Serenity is no less, but it’s more maternal in nature—especially now that they’re stranded on Pern, she’s prone to mothering the younger girl.
She attended the space camp (despite being a little old) as much to slake her thirst for knowledge as to remain with her siblings. The crash-landing on Pern, though shocking and distressing in a myriad of ways, was also somewhat of a dream come true for Alice. She’s in a whole new world, with only the tenuous guide of a series of fiction books. For someone who thrives on discovering and learning, that’s a miracle. She can’t wait to explore the intricacies of the planet.
Dragon Information:
Name: Kikith
Color: Quartz
Appearance: Kikith has the overall appearance of a rose quartz. The delicate blush hue of her white base is punctuated by swirls of cream and occasionally darker pink, particular along her neck ridges. Her wings membranes are almost transparent, so much so that the green of the ichor is always clearly visible beneath the pale pink layer. She is a slender, delicate dragon, and as yet she has not grown into her length. Still, she carries herself quite regally.
