Jenesys had finally pulled himself away form the books and had made his way outside. He still had his satchel with him, it was one of the few things he was able to salvage form the crash...it was a coat that his mother had gifted him that had belonged to his father. After crashing the jacket, a long pea coat, had been damaged to the point that it couldn't be used for it's original purpose but one of the Weavers had offered to make something out of it...and here was his satchel. It was the only thing he had that reminded him of home, of his family. He didn't have anything personal from his aunt aside from the lessons she'd taught him.
At the thought of home he turned his eyes up to the sky...it was so similar to the sky on Earth but so different. A Wherry flew overhead and he sighed heavily...there was one glaring difference...all of the animals...the people, the ground itself. Nudging his foot in the sand he couldn't help but chuckle at the similarities...which would help in developing the shuttle to get home. After all this sand could be made into the glass they would need for the shuttle. The only issues he was running into is finding enough metal to make the haul, then of course they needed insulation, rubbed wouldn't be a bad idea for wheels. He was lost in thought as he went down the list of supplies, not really paying attention to where he was going as he walked down the length of the beach.

Eternity was playing with her puppy and her Lapis flit further down the beach. Lucy now responded to hearing her name called, so she didn't need the makeshift leash anymore. She looked more like a dog of Pern now, rather than one of Earth. Eternity had been searching the waves for little Siren when Lucy ran under her, pulling her legs out from under her. She landed flat on her rear, and the waves washed over her, soaking whatever they could reach. Oh, she'd have to hang these up to dry later. But right now they were having quite a lot of fun!
Oh, that boy... Eternity stood up and waved to him, then ran over. She was soaked from the neck down, but she was beaming. It had been so much fun! "Jenesys, why are you so serious all the time?" she asked him. "You should take some time to play around, have some fun. Make the most of our time here." She smiled brightly, and Siren appeared out of between and settled on her shoulder. She laughed and put a finger close to her head, which the Lapis bumped her head against. "You should get one too, the flits are amazingly helpful, when they're not busy eating and sleeping." She laughed again as Siren flew off and landed on a small cliff. That was where she'd found Lucy, almost two months ago... There was no way she would fit in there now. Memories were already building around this new home of theirs, and she hadn't even realized it.

Jenesys didn't notice Eternity immediately, but the instant she called his name he looked up. Blinking he offered a gentle smile before taking in her soaked appearance. It was only when he took in his surrounding that he noticed the disturbed sand a bit away where the waves were constantly rolling over that he assumed she'd fallen and been drenched. That was the very reason he stayed away from the ocean right now, last thing he need was to have all his notes and papers soaked by the water.
"Hello, Eternity," he said, offering a nod to her before giving her a small shrug. "I'm serious because I want to return home...if I don't keep studying what had happened or trying to figure out how to replace our shuttle then we'll never return home. I know my mother an daunt must be pulling their hair out in worry and I...I miss them too," he sighed softly, one hand gripping his satchel a bit closer. "I don't have time to play...maybe when we return home," he reassured her. His eyes turned to Siren when she appeared and he watched the little beauty before shaking his head. "No...what if they can return home with us...it wouldn't be far..." he said softly as he watched the little Lapis fly off. In truth, if he didn't have anything attaching himself to this world then he could easily leave it when they were successful in returning home. Eternity seemed happy here...if she wished to stay when the shuttle was created then so be it but...
Pulling his mind from those thoughts she turned back tot he young girl. "I see that you got a little too close to the sea," he said, trying to change the subject a bit. Thankfully it was warm so she wasn't in danger of freezing or getting sick.

Her eyes darkened and she looked away. He still thought they could rebuild the Aries with the primitive technologies this world had? "You don't get it..." she muttered when he finished talking. "Almost the entire Aries was lost when it exploded. There's not enough here to be able to rebuild it. They're in a different era than Earth. They can barely make weapons with metal, let alone find enough to make an entire space shuttle. And even if we do get home, that wormhole pulled us through time as well as space. Pern was actually settled by humans from Earth, in the distant future. We're not going to be able to replicate what happened." He mentioned his aunt.
"You think I'm not worried...?" she muttered. She suddenly glared at him. "My dad SAW the whole thing happen! My dad was on the Mission Control team for space camp! My sister is dead because of this whole event, and my family thinks I am too!" She turned her back, hands balled up in fists. "I never even wanted to go to stupid space camp, but dad had already paid the registration fee before he told me about it, so I didn't have a choice. You think you're the only one who misses your family...? What about that ten-year-old boy who lost his ONLY family? He lost his father, he doesn't have anyone to return to!" She turned back to him, eyes blazing, fighting back the tears. "You don't understand how mean that is... You're still trying to get home, you're holding hope out to those little kids like teasing a dog with raw meat! We're not going to be able to go home! And even if we do somehow find a way to get into space, how do we find Earth? Do you even KNOW where wee are in relation to Earth? And then there's the fact that this is most likely the super-distant future, our living relatives won't even KNOW us!" The tears she had been holding back started to spill over. She looked at the ground, and her whole body seemed to relax.
"Why don't you understand how much pain everyone else is going through...?" she muttered softly. "How much pain your ridiculous optimism is putting everyone else through... Most of us realized really quickly that whatever happened was a spacial anomaly, it's probably never going to happen again. We wish we could go home, but we've realized that it's never going to happen. You've got that pointless hope that's only making it harder on the rest of us..." She covered her face with her hands and turned her back to him again. Why couldn't he understand...?

Jenesys flinched visibly at her words...it was a real slap in the face. He was optimistic because it was the only thing keeping him sane, the small...miniscule hope that they could return home. Hope is all he'd ever had as he grew up and was mercilessly teased and tormented for what he could do with his mind. He'd thought of many reasons why his studies would never work...that what he was doing was fruitless but he'd never EVER[/b] been one to back down from a challenge. He let her yell at him, scream, remind him of all the pain everyone had tried to forget...he didn't even try to hold back the tears and let them fall. He'd had yet to mourn...to mourn those they'd lost in the crash and those they'd lost when arriving here.
"I'm sorry..." he whispered softly, his eyes falling to the sand. "I...I didn't mean to upset you or anyone I...I just didn't want to hurt...not like I used to so I...I just buried myself in the hope and the work and...and instead I'm hurting everyone around me I..." he swallowed thickly before letting out a breath. "I apologize for upsetting you I...I'll just...I'm sorry," he said as he turned to leave. There was really nothing more he could say and he was afraid to say anything but apologizes. He knew he himself needed to move on and maybe if he FINALLY allowed himself to mourn he could accept being here. He knew he'd always have the hope that he could see his family once more but for now he needed to get his head and his heart straight.

Eternity suddenly found herself afraid of him leaving. He was only three years older than her, but her sister would've been the same age now. She watched as he took a few steps, but then she found herself clinging to his back. "Please... Don't go..." she whispered, still crying. "I... I don't want to be alone..." She'd finally said it. The reason she was so ecstatic finding out that they might have a chance to be Riders. "My whole life, my big sister was always there... All of them... Serenity, and Aster and Acacia too... Someone else has always been there..." She had wads of fabric from his shirt balled in her fists. "Serenity... She was only two years older than me... She hadn't even decided what college she wanted to go to... She was the one into astronomy, not me..." Her shoulders were shaking. All the feelings that she'd kept pent up inside for the last month were finally starting to spill out. "She was the one who liked this stuff. She was always talking about the stars, and the stories behind the constellations... But... I'm the one who survived..." She still didn't understand why she'd lived, but her sister hadn't. Was it just luck...? Or had something else pushed her under the desk that day? If she hadn't slipped under the desk, she might've died too...
"I can't go back to Earth..." she finally admitted. "If I go back, I'll have to tell everyone that I was the only one of us who survived... That I couldn't do anything to save Serenity... And I don't want to see the look on mama's face if I say that!" There. It was out. She'd finally said something. A month gone by, and she'd finally said the truth behind what she was feeling.

Jenesys froze when he felt Eternity grab the back of his shirt. He could feel her crying, the feeling of her trembling against his back. He himself was trying to calm down and after a moment he was able to push his feelings aside, like he always did. He didn't know what it felt like to lose a family member, he'd been too young to remember his father and he knew he missed him...but his mother and aunt had helped make sure there was no void when he became aware of the man's once existence. Others had recently lost someone very close to them...yes, he'd lost his family when they fell through the black hole, but others had seen their loved ones die...especially Eternity who'd lost her sister in the crash.
"Hey...it'll...it'll be ok," he whispered softly as he turned back to Eternity and wrapped his arms around her. He knew positive words weren't really welcome, but he wanted to help...even a little bit. "I guess...I guess it might be better one both sides if the other is believed to be gone...I haven't lost anyone dear, like you, but I won't have to face those who treated me like a freak...I can hopefully be myself here...make a new life and you can too...live for her," he said softly...though he said he wanted to go back to Earth did he really want to? Did he really want to return only to be despised, ridiculed, and ostracized as he'd been before?

She felt him movie, and she let go. Had she pushed too far? That question answered itself a moment later when he embraced her. He may have been older than her, but there wasn't much difference in height. She found herself relaxing in his arms, listening to his words. Treated like a freak? Well, not at all like what she'd had to deal with growing up. Aster and Acacia would be okay, they were already twenty and in college. They would move on. She didn't have anyone...
Or, so she had thought. She'd forgotten one important detail. There were thirty people who survived the crash of the Aries, thirty people who would be able to understand, at least in part, what was causing her so much pain. She stopped shaking, and, eventually, her tears dried up as well. She looked up at him, eyes red from her crying fit. She gave him a small smile, then rested her head against him again. I can hear his heartbeat... she realized. This was new, no one had held her like this before. Maybe... Maybe she could get past this. Make a life here... Well, she'd already started doing that.
"Life happens wherever you are..." she muttered, just loud enough for him to hear. "Whether you make it or not."

Jenesys just held her letting her crying, letting her mourn. He would have to do the same at some point, but for now, Eternity needed some reassurance. He remembered his mother doing the same for him. After each day at school where he'd been tormented and ridiculed for what he could do with his mind. How he could excel and others did not...he never meant to make others feel the way they did, it was just how he was wired and he was never a social person because of the torment and thus...well...he just closed off from other people. Maybe this place is what he needed to become more social.
It was as she pulled away, the tears finally dried up and he returned her smile. His arms didn't fall from her as she leant into him again, his cheek resting against the side of her head. Her next words were anything but false...life would occur whether you wanted it or not, however, in a world like this it was what you made of it. If you wallowed in your anger or pain, life would continue around you...but would you really be a part of it? "Yeah...now it's just a matter of going along with it and making this life our own," he said. He gave her one final squeeze before releasing her.
"Maybe I will look into getting one of the...what are they again? Flame lizards?"
