A good question my friend.
"The year is 2015, and Space camp has begun. All groups have now been shuttled to the orbiting facility Aries, developed by NASA in response to a plea from Space Camp enthusiasts to actually be AMONG the stars as they learned. There they will remain for the next week, learning how to be astronauts, or simply just how to read the stars and skies, the weather."
Or, that's what was SUPPOSED to happen. Just as the last shuttle had left for Earth, a strange gravitational pull began to exert itself on the floating facility, pulling it inexorably towards a patch of nothing, of darkness. "It's a black hole!" someone, probably a foolish student, cried, and panic began to ensue. There was no time to react, no time to comfort these youngsters about to be crushed to nothing due to circumstances beyond their poor intructors' control. The facility was sucked in, and vanished off of Earth's radar, to the horrified gasps of forty sets of parents and siblings who had just watched their beloved children die...
Or so they thought.
The facility was to reappear again among unfamiliar stars, hurtling in a flaming mass towards a lovely blue and green planet. Upon that planet, a young mother, refusing to release her offspring-supposedly nothing more than stillborns-to the coldness. Wrapped around them, she looked up to see that flaming mass, and bugled in alarm, bringing her other half running to her side. "Call for aid!" the one cried. "And get me up those cliffs!" A powerful mental bellow went out to the mother's kin, and she darted upwards, her other half in tow, just as the flaming mass hit the edge of the cliff and bounced upwards, sending debris raining down. None hit the mother, or damaged her offspring, and she followed the mass now skidding through the trees, only to be halted in a large clearing by a boulder the size of a house. She could feel them inside, panicked, in pain, fear raging strong within this strange, now useless metal contraption. We have to get them out!
She need not have worried, for there were those inside thinking that same thing...
All save 21 of those aboard were recovered, leaving 30 students and a single instructor alive and unsure of themselves on this new world. On top of that, it was discovered that the clutch of fifteen eggs thought to be duds was in fact alive and well, seemingly triggered by the crash to begin growing and showing signs of life once more. This clutch, containing two magnificent Queen eggs, Hatched three months after the crash. Tragedy struck it, a confused and out of control Diamond King known as Demonth mistaking the Black Pearl Queen Sirieth for a hated Onyx and killing her, being dragged Between himself just before she was lost. Two Queens still came of the clutch, one sandy toned Pearl, Quinith, who Impressed to the Earther Aura, and one strangely colored Gray Diamond, Cvath-twin to the murderous Demonth-who Impressed to the Earther Eternity. Many healthy Hatchlings came of the clutch, a total of fifteen in all, and are now under the instruction of Lenara and her Aquamarine.
In addition, roughly two weeks before the Hatching, a pair of Earther Candidates, Aura and Tobias, stumbled upon a strange clutch in the forest, hidden under a bramble bush and seemingly protected by an unknown parent with lime green fur of soft velvety texture. And three days after it, those eggs Hatched, revealing themselves to be odd, new beasts who, in addition to coming in every color imaginable, also revealed themselves to Hatch in twinpairs and impress upon first sight.
Now, the Weyr stands watchful, rumors fly from a vicious Queenhunter who INSISTS Quinith was stolen from her by Aura, and those most central are trying to find their feet-and their place in some cases-in this new world.
