Appearance: Gavin is on the small side for a male, barely reaching five feet and eight inches tall. He is not particularly muscular either, but he is somewhat wiry since he does sometimes exercise alone. Dark, near black, slightly wavy hair cut somewhat long for a male frames a light-skinned, not quite delicate, slightly oval face with medium brown eyes. He is left-handed, so his writing and drawing hand usually has at least a little smudge on the side. He usually wears clothes in earth tones and blues.
Personality: Gavin is very much a fan of the Pern books and much of his personal sketchbook is filled with various images of scenes from the books or of his own Pernese characters. Gavin had a cat named Mist who he called "Little Girl" and spoiled outrageously. He also volunteered at the animal shelter in his spare time. Though he greatly dislikes bullies, if they aren't pestering him or any of his friends, he tends to ignore them. On the other hand, it doesn't matter how he feels about a person who is hurting an animal, he will be right up in that person's face, telling him or her off.
Since the crash, Gavin has been even more quiet than usual; his brother's death hit him hard because they were very close, despite the differences in their personalities and interests. He's also been pretty awkward around the riders, because becoming a rider had been a fantasy of his since he discovered the Pern books, but one that had no possibility of coming true. Now that it is a real possibility, Gavin isn't sure about anything anymore.
History: Gavin was born and grew up in Wales, living there all his life until his brother Darryn convinced him to go to Space Camp. Not a particularly popular or athletic child, Gavin spent a lot of time in the library when he was young and found a great interest in science fiction and fantasy, particularly the Pern books. When he got older, Gavin found roleplay forums for Pern on the internet, though he found himself a bit irritated by the canon fanatics who hated anything that wasn't in the books. To him, there was plenty of room for all interpretations of Pern, even if he did think meters sizes were a little ridiculous to keep clean.
Gavin had little interest in Space Camp; he would have preferred an art camp. He ended up going because his brother Darryn talked him into trying it. It was only after Darryn bribed him into going with the promise of buying him a high quality digital art program that Gavin signed up. It was only for a week, what could happen?
Nothing should have happened, but something did. The space station was pulled into something that seemed like a black hole, but instead of crushing them into nothingness, the "wormhole" spat them out among strange stars, hurtling toward a blue and green planet that would prove both strange and to some, oddly familiar. Gavin was slightly injured in the crash, but his brother was injured far worse. They both made it out of the wreck of the space station, but Darryn died soon after the crash due to internal injuries. Now Gavin is trying to figure out how he will fit into the Weyr.

For Candidates:
What Color Would They Prefer to Impress?: He'd be okay with any dragon, but he thinks a Topaz, an Emerald, or an Aquamarine would be the best fit for him.
Why?: Gavin likes those colors and wants to lead, but not to an extreme that would make him be sure he wants an Onyx. He'd also be happy with a female dragon but any dragon would be a dream come true.
What Color Would YOU Prefer They Impress?: Aquamarine or female Diamond or Pearl or female Lapis, Emerald, Left Standing in that order. Dragons with "or" between the hues are equal in preference. Not that I think female Diamond/Pearl is going to happen.
Why?: Mostly I just want him on a female dragon as I feel that they fit him better. I want to make my own Amethyst and Quartz to make personalities I can work with and I don't want to duplicate colors because of the limited number of character slots here.
Mauling Allowed?: As long as it doesn't do enough to cripple him, and he can still ride a dragon and fight Thread, I'm okay with mauling him a bit.
